We have also been learning about festivals from around the world- St Andrews’ Day, Chinese New Year and Valentines Day. We made Scottish flags and ate Scotch Pancakes, did some spring cleaning to welcome the Chinese New Year, learned key words by playing a Chinese themed Kim’s game and ate prawn crackers and egg fried rice at snack time. We used our strong fingers to cut noodles and pick them up with chopsticks and loved ordering and preparing food in our Chinese takeaway role play area. We looked at Chinese symbols and found the letter sounds for our names. We even said hello in Chinese! For Valentines Day we made our families a beautiful card and talked about people we love at home. We drew a picture of our families and printed a heart shape to show we love them. We wrote love letters to our special people! We have also enjoyed a visit from Michelle from Library Services, who entertained our children and families with stories, rhyme time and musical instruments 🤩

We have been enjoying learning about Winter. We kept our fingers busy with some winter cutting skills, learned key words and investigated winter items at our light table. We decorated snowflakes for our display and built snowmen using large scale construction. We thought about shapes and patterns and had a go at matching halves of snowflakes and pairs of mittens ❄️☃️. We listened to lots of stories and looked at non fiction books about Winter. We also tried to use finger numbers and learn the 5 little snowflakes song 😀

We’ve had a great time over the last few weeks preparing for Christmas by making cards, gifts and calendars for our adults. We’ve been busy prepping vegetables in the Christmas kitchen, peeling, mashing, stirring and chopping to make the Christmas lunch. We learned lots of new words and experienced new smells whilst we played. We’ve done lots of Christmas crafts, wrapped presents and put them under the tree. Today we enjoyed our Christmas party, when rhythm time and Santa came to visit! We did a Christmas treasure hunt and had hot chocolate and biscuits for snack. Merry Christmas to all of our children and families 🎄🎅🏻

Last week we held a beautiful memorial for Lady Sue, Susan Mayer, who had worked with us at the preschool for over 30 years. Many of her family, friends and colleagues joined us for the afternoon to celebrate Sue’s life with the opening of a new Buddy Bench for our garden area. The bench was very kindly donated to us by one of the families whose children Sue looked after over her years here at the preschool. Our children love the bench and we all agree, it is a perfect reminder of Lady Sue, who loved being outside with the children ❤️💐

We celebrated Remembrance at the Pre-school with a visit from a soldier, who presented the children with a poppy. We looked at his uniform and medals and talked about why Remembrance is important. We looked at pictures to help us understand. We made a beautiful handprint poppy wreath, finger painted a field of poppies and marched to The Grand Old Duke of York like a soldier would. We also did an obstacle course to continue our learning outside. Earlier in the week we celebrated Bonfire Night by building our own bonfire, collaging a bonfire and painting fireworks. We also made rockets and learned about fire safety 🔥🎆🎇

We will be holding a memorial for 'Lady Sue' (Sue Mayer) at the Preschool on Wednesday 29th November, 2-3pm, where we will officially open the beautiful bench, donated by one of our very kind families, for use by the children as a buddy bench. If you could spread the word to any of our past families who might like to attend, we would be very grateful, as Sue worked with so many children over the years here with us. Light refreshments will be provided on the afternoon, so please could anyone wishing to attend RSVP by commenting on this post, e mail [email protected] or telephone the Preschool on 07803 301436, so that we have an idea of numbers. Thank you!

Otherwise you can book your child in for an extra session if they would like to join in and stay with us until 3pm. Please speak to a member of staff if your child would like to come along and join in the fun🙌🏻😀

We have settled into preschool this Autumn term, having lots of fun during our All About Me and Autumn topics. We are enjoying our learning both indoors and outside! Here are some photos of us learning about farms and harvest, expanding our vocabulary by digging up vegetables and washing them ready to sell in our shop. We have been investigating Autumn items and doing free painting with seasonal colours. Some of us can also dress ourselves in warm clothes ready for colder weather! Well done! So far we have also enjoyed a visit from Rhythm Time and been to Clayton Library, phew!

The end of the year is here and we have said goodbye to some of our beautiful children who are off to school in September 😢. We wish them all the best of luck and are so very proud of the progress they have made this year that means they are ready for big school 🏫. We also said a very sad goodbye to Shubox (Christine, our Preschool manager) who has been an absolute inspiration to the children who have been through the preschool for the last 23 years. On behalf of all of the children, families and staff, we will miss you so much and send you lots of love and luck for your retirement ❤️😘🎉😭🍀🤞🏻. Here are some pictures of Shubox and the children enjoying our beach and pirate theme days this week.
