🌿 Eco Stewardship at Silverdale Country Park 🌿

Our Eco Stewardship group recently visited Silverdale Country Park to explore the birds and the variety of habitats that have developed since the mine’s closure.

On the lake, we spotted adult Great Crested Grebes diving to catch food for their chicks, who were calling out nearby. We timed their dives and found they could stay underwater for an impressive 30 seconds!

We also saw mallards, Canada geese and moorhens around the water’s edge. In the surrounding grassland and scrubland habitats, we observed magpies and wood pigeons, and heard many more birds throughout the area.

A fantastic opportunity to see how nature is thriving and adapting in a restored landscape 🌱

🍫✨ Year 8 Business Challenge Success! ✨🍫

On Monday, our talented Year 8 learners showcased their entrepreneurial skills in an exciting Chocolate Bar Business Challenge!

Learners worked in teams to create their own unique chocolate bar, carefully selecting flavours, toppings and mix-ins before designing eye-catching packaging and delivering a professional sales pitch to present their product.

We were incredibly impressed by the creativity, innovation and confidence demonstrated throughout the day. From imaginative flavour combinations to professional presentations, our students showed fantastic teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills.

A huge well done to all involved for their enthusiasm, effort and professionalism. The future of business and entrepreneurship is certainly bright at St John Fisher! πŸŒŸπŸ‘

We are delighted to unveil our new St Gabriel the Archangel, CMAT Characteristics Board, now proudly displayed in our school reception foyer.

As part of our recent CPD, all staff reflected on what each of our five CMAT characteristics means in practice and how we can live them out every day within our school community. These characteristics are at the heart of everything we do, helping us to create a culture where everyone feels valued, supported, and inspired to achieve their best.

We look forward to continuing to embed these values in our daily interactions and celebrating the positive impact they have on our pupils, staff, and wider community.

πŸ“± Online Safety Update for Parents and Carers

With the recent announcement of a social media ban for under 16-year-olds in the UK from Spring next year, many parents and carers may be thinking about how best to support their children in managing their social media use.

There are some excellent resources available to help families navigate online safety, privacy settings, age restrictions, and healthy digital habits:

πŸ”Ή NSPCC Social Media Safety Guide
Practical advice on social media safety, privacy settings, age ratings, and how to have open conversations with your child about their online life.
πŸ”Ή Internet Matters – Social Media Guide for Parents and Carers
A dedicated guide developed with the UK Safer Internet Centre and children's charities, offering practical tips and guidance on managing children's social media use.

We encourage all parents and carers to take a look at these resources and continue the conversation about staying safe online.

Together, we can help young people enjoy the benefits of technology while understanding how to use it responsibly and safely. πŸ’™
