Part 2️⃣ of talking about bilingual businesses.
💫Today is about Culture 💫
On the face of it, modern culture seems quite similar all over the globe. We’ve all got smartphones, Netflix and Spotify, and as a result it can be easy to think that you don’t need to worry about culture.
That would be a mistake. ❌
The truth is that even between England 🏴 and France 🇫🇷, there are areas where culture is very different indeed, and being sensitive to those difference is one of the keys to successful international collaboration.
☑️ For example, in some countries, it’s absolutely fine to talk about money. In others, it’s totally frowned upon.
☑️ Some nationalities are more direct, some are more withdrawn.
☑️ Some countries have specific practices that must be respected (like the Spanish siesta), while others have absolute “no-nos” that simply shouldn’t happen.
☑️ Greeting men and women in some countries has to be done differently.
Notes from Nathalie Danon, our Director:
“I remember my early days in an international firm when, to try and impress a potential new French client, top executives had prepared a high-quality presentation. Then, at lunchtime, brought in the cheap club sandwich-crips combo. Not the ideal lunch when a sausage + mash + pint at the local pub wouldn't made a great impression to immerse the French hosts into British culture, which I know they would have loved!”
➡️ If your business is operating across more than one country or nationality, getting a handle on the culture across those different countries 🌍 or nationalities is critical.
