EXAM SUCCESS

A massive well done to Sid, who recently passed his Rockschool Debut Drum Exam with Distinction! I’m super proud of him. He put in a lot of effort and was rewarded with an excellent result. A big thank you to his parents for all their support and encouragement at home. Go Sid!! It’s great to see his confidence improve. 💯

ANNOUNCEMENT

I’m delighted to announce that we are expanding our lesson offering in September, with piano and singing lessons! Dean Jones will be teaching beginner piano lessons at Thatcham Park, and Ellie Chadwick will be teaching singing lessons at The Winchcombe School. Excited! 🎶

FAREWELL TO ANDY

It’s with a heavy heart that Andy, our wonderful guitar teacher, will be leaving St James' CE Primary School, Emsworth this summer. Andy has been a huge part of Drum With Alex over the last four years and has been such a great teacher to his students. I’m incredibly grateful for everything he has given to us and will miss him very much. Andy and his wife have recently welcomed their second child and this feels like the right time for him to step back and focus on family life. I’m so pleased for them and wish them every happiness.

Thank you for everything Andy, you’ve been amazing! 🙌

SUMMER PRACTICE TIPS!

1. Revisit old pieces/songs/pages from the book. See how far you’ve come!

2. Jam along to songs. It doesn’t have to be perfect, enjoy trying!

3. Play rhythm games like call and response. Great fun!

4. Watch YouTube videos, listen to music with your child. Great for inspiration!

5. Take a break. Come back in September refreshed and ready to learn again! 😌

HMV STUDENT SHOWCASE

A massive well done to all of our students who took part in the Drum With Alex Student Showcase at HMV, Newbury. It was the 5th annual showcase and by my estimations it was our most well attended event to date! I’m incredibly proud of everyone who took part. We had a real range of students, our youngest performing was just 5 years, and our oldest performing at 14, who has been learning for nearly 10 years. It takes a lot of courage and bravery to perform in front of others, and they will have improved their confidence and have a real sense of achievement. Everyone did so brilliantly! It was so nice to see so many families attend and meet so many of you. A huge thank you to you for your encouragement and support with your child’s learning. A big thank you as well to our amazing tutor, Jack, who helped prepare many of the students for the performance. And another big thank you to HMV for allowing us to host it. Here’s to the next one! 🙌

Well done to everyone involved, what a fantastic evening!

MUSIC EXTRAVAGANZA 2026
What a fantastic evening! Over 90 children from Year 1 through to Year 6 took to the stage, performing cello, guitar, flute, clarinet, saxophone, drums, piano and singing with our brilliant choir. The talent and confidence on show were something special.

A huge thank you to Mrs Snell for all her hard work bringing the event together, to Kennet School for the use of the hall, and to Miss Hobbs and the backstage staff for giving up their evening to support the performers. We’re also incredibly grateful to our music teachers from Berkshire Music Trust and Drum With Alex for their support and expertise. A brilliant night for our school community.

Great to kick off assembly season at Highwood Copse Primary School! I did a demo of the drum kit, a bit of show and tell about each part, invited a student to come up to do some call and response rhythms (they were awesome!), performed We Will Rock You, and did a Q&A with the children. A really lovely school and great way to kick off a Tuesday morning!
