St John's Pre-School A fantastic pre-school for children aged 2 to 5 years of age in the heart of Newbury.

A community Pre-school with a charitable status, owned and run by the parents of the children attending. We have 5 permanent and dedicated members of staff who make up the incredible Pre-School Team. At St John's Pre-school we pride ourselves on our safe, warm, friendly and nurturing atmosphere. We work in partnership with the parents and carers to ensure that all the children get the best possibl

e start in their early years learning. Your child's learning is encouraged through free choice of play both indoor and outdoor. We work with all the children in small groups to promote literacy and numeracy through a variety of learning games. Each child is encouraged to learn at their own pace, discovering ideas and concepts through play.

It's been a fun week at Pre-School despite the soggy weather on and off 🌧

Lizzie was back for Boogie Mites. We started off with clap, clap, clap remembering a special sequence of dance moves 👏. We explored lots of animals, bugs and birds that we might see in the park or garden, talking about the sounds they make and how they move 🐛🪲🐞. We enjoyed getting the sticks and drums out and mastered a rhythm pattern 🥁🪘 ending with a game of ready steady bananas! 🍌

We enjoyed flower arranging in the playdough 💐 and a seaside themed playdough tray 🌊🐚, painting rainbows 🌈, dancing to 'koo koo kangaroo' 🦘🕺, observing and drawing our own birds nest 🪹, water colour mixing 💧 and more.

We've been doing lots of practice for sports day with an egg and spoon race and obstacles 🏁🥚🥄

Father Gary came in for story time and read us a book about a cat and mouse 🐈🐁.

Next week is our last week before we break up for May half term. We hope you have a food weekend. Here's to lots more fun next week ☺️☺️

We've enjoyed another fun week with our friends at Pre-School 😊

We've continued to spend lots of time outside in the garden - creating giant bubbles 🫧, measuring our shadows 👤, making giant ramps to roll the balls down ⚽, creating an Elsa from Frozen inspired potion 🧪, watering the plants 🌿🚿, drawing using stencils ✏️ and lots more.

In Rugby Tots we played our favourite tag game with some of the children wearing multiple tags at once so several people had to chase them 🏈🏉

We've had fun dancing 🪩, dressing up 👗, playing with porridge oats 🥣, creating road tracks 🛣️, using number stickers 🔢, finding treasure in the sand 🏖️🪙 and more.

Due to our current cleaner going on maternity leave soon we are recruiting for a term time cleaner at the Pre-School.

The current position that we have available is working Monday – Friday from either 6.30am - 7.30am or 7am - 8am (1 hour per day).

A DBS check will be carried out.

Duties to include:

· Sweeping, vacuuming and mopping floors

· Servicing restrooms and wiping down communal surfaces

· Cleaning windows, glass surfaces, and mirrors

· Cleaning sinks, basins, and toilets

· Maintaining and upkeep of all cleaning equipment

Full training will be provided

Part-time hours: 5 hours per week potentially more when further deep cleaning required

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent

Salary: TBC

How many people get to say they can spend the whole week playing outside in the sunshine ☀️. That is exactly what we have done and we have loved it!

We have made flower potions and perfume 💐🧪, washing the animals in the water play ,💦🐬🐋, creating cardboard robots and cars 📦👾🤖🚗, testing how strong we are 💪, playing Paw patrol games 🐕, Boogie mites exploring different instruments especially the saxophone 🎷, playing our favourite tag game in Rugby Tots 🏈🏉, listening to Father Gary read us a story called 'Doodle bites' which the children loved 📖, having a picnic style snack 🧺 and lots more.

Sadly today we have had to say goodbye to Hayley as she is leaving us to start a new adventure. We wish her all the best and thank her for all she has done 😊

We have also enjoyed dough disco 🪩, scarf yoga 🧣🧘, exploring bugs 🐝, creating our own Pre-School band 🥁🪘, creations in the sand 🐚 and lots more.

We hope you all enjoy the long weekend. We will return to Pre-School on Tuesday 5th May after the bank holiday. Have a good one everyone 😊😊

How lovely has it been to see the sun shining this week ☀️

We enjoyed a walk to Sainsbury's to collect some new tablets that we have purchased using our amazing fundraising. The children enjoyed seeing what they could find on route including blossom trees, a blue butterfly 🦋 and lots of lorries that were beeping their horns and waving 🚛👋. The children were absolute superstars so they were rewarded with a yummy treat 🍩

We've spent so much time outside creating big bubbles with the wands 🫧, making a rainbow with chalk paste 🌈, mud potions, looking after our babies 🍼👶, reading books 📚, tag games in Rugby Tots 🏉🏈 and lots more.

We enjoyed story time with Father Gary in the garden where he read us 'There's a dinosaur in your book'. We then played hide and seek where Father Gary was the dinosaur 🦕🦖. We also sang a big Happy Birthday to Father Gary as it's his birthday over the weekend 🎂🎉

In Boogie Mites we were comparing our body parts to the teddies 👀👃👄💪🦵
We continued our farm theme with the farm animals and sang 'I hear thunder' using a gold sheet which we had to hang to create the noise ⚡⛈️.

Fingers crossed 🤞 the warm weather continues over the weekend. Don't forget to make sure your child has suncream applied before they come into the setting please.

We have completed our first week back after the Easter holidays and what fun we've had 😊

We are delighted to welcome Jennie to our Pre-School family 🥰. She has settled in so well and we are so happy she is with us.

We welcomed back Lizzie for Boogie Mites, Coach Jack for Rugby Tots and Father Gary for story time.

In Boogiemites we were down on the farm, dancing to music and practicing our balancing, toe-tapping and skipping in Funky in the farm. We explored different sounds farm animals make 🐄🐖🐏🐑👨‍🌾. We had the xylophone out and tried singing the pitches that Lizzie played 🎶

In Rugby Tots we enjoyed playing tag and testing our ball skills 🏈🏉

As per our post earlier in the week we are absolutely delighted with the amount raised from the Bag2School collection. The children enjoyed learning about how the scales worked when the van drove on top of them 🚐🛍️👕👗🧥

Father Gary came and read us a story today all about the seaside 🌊🐙🐠🐚. We played a game of hide and seek where Father Gary was a seagull and the children were the chips and ice-cream 🍟🍦

We've enjoyed water play 💦💧, making towers 📦, reading books 📚, making collages ✂️, play dough with feathers 🪶, shaving foam play and lots more.

A pack away Pre-School is no challenge for the staff here at St John's, we transform this room into a wonderful space in just 30 minutes each morning 💪 But some of you may notice a difference ... over the half term our fabulous chair person Gary has freshened up the room with a coat of paint and we had new flooring installed and wow what a difference it has made! 😍 We were very lucky to split the cost of the flooring with St John the Evangelist Church, Newbury putting our gratefully received fundraising towards this cost! We want to take this opportunity to thank our chair person Gary for his hard work and also to everyone who donates during fundraising events because without you, things like this would not be possible 😊 We have loved experimenting with today's set up, seeing how we can utilise the space even more! Look out for future fundraising events and how we can continue to improve Pre-School for your fabulous children 💜

Bag2School is a free eco-friendly fundraising scheme that helps schools, businesses, community groups, local councils, and charities raise funds through textile recycling as well as spreading textile recycling awareness.
