Today, I went shopping with my daughter and son at our local supermarket, a place we've frequented for years. What should have been a routine trip turned into a nightmare.

As we were in the car park, a person approached us and began hurling racial slurs. It was a moment that no mother ever wants to experience, especially in front of her children. I did my best to stay calm and not react, even though it was incredibly difficult to not respond to such hate.

My daughter, who had never experienced anything like this before, was in complete shock. As we continued shopping, she remained silent, her face completely blank, trying to process what had just happened. She looked around at others, trying to understand what she had done to deserve such treatment.

This is a picture of her, lost in thought, trying to make sense of something that should never happen to anyone, especially not a child. As a mother, it breaks my heart to see her go through this. Racism is a poison that we must continue to fight against, not just for ourselves, but for the next generation.
