National Baby-Led Weaning Day 💛

Baby-led weaning gives children the opportunity to explore food independently, helping to build confidence, support fine motor development and encourage a positive relationship with food from the very start.

We know that every family's weaning journey is different. That's why we take time during the settling-in process to understand each family's preferences and chosen approach. Whether parents opt for baby-led weaning, purées or a combination of both, it's always led by parental choice, with our nursery teams there to provide support every step of the way.

Through close partnerships with families, we create positive mealtime experiences where children can safely explore a variety of tastes and textures at their own pace. As they do, they're developing independence, self-confidence and important skills that support their wider learning and development.

This week in Peter Rabbits, we have started our exciting new book of the month, 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' 🐛. We’ve been incorporating this delightful story into our extra-curricular activities.

Forest School:

We created our own caterpillars using toilet roll holders which we painted green, allowing the children to express their creativity within nature. They also used natural materials from the garden to decorate their caterpillars 🌷🌿. We also collected leaves to create a caterpillar!

Cookery:

We explored healthy eating by discussing the caterpillar's favourite foods. The children practised their cutting skills while preparing fruit for kebabs 🍴. They enjoyed discovering the various textures and colours of the fruits, and of course, tasting them too 🍓🍌🍇🍊🥝🍡.

Wellbeing:

We engaged in butterfly painting, discussing how different colours relate to our emotions ❤️😁. The children also explored a potion tray with flowers and peppermint tea bags 🫖🌸. This experience allowed us to explore our senses through touching the flowers and smelling the peppermint.
