The Squadron's main aim is to provide ground based flight training and experience to Royal Air Force Air Cadets.

643 Aerospace Ground School (AGS) based at RAF Syerston, is designed to focus on ground based training for Cadets within Central and East Region of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets to prepare for Flying Scholarships. The AGS plays an important role in providing the first steps towards qualifying for Gliding and/or Air Cadet Pilot Scholarships within the RAFAC.

Weekend number two of 2026 βœ…

This weekend we had cadets from Trent Wing Air Cadets within Central & East Region Air Cadets undertake the Bronze Wings course!

After a good level of work, practice and instruction, we managed to successfully get 11 cadets through and achieve their wings πŸ‘πŸΌ

The effort put into each course is immense and cadets are put through their paces as each element is introduced throughout the day!

It is wonderful to see the AGSs achieving the cadet experience within the Aviation strand of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets and a goal of ours is to improve our output as we get more staff upskilled and supporting these weekends!

Another successful weekend completed βœ…

This weekend we saw many achievements and as a newly established unit we want to celebrate every win!

Due to the latest updates of the Bronze Wings Course we had a AGS upskill day to ensure we could continue to deliver a course to our full capacity which is 6 cadets as we currently work.

This means on Saturday both 643 AGS and 617 AGS staff all met at RAF Syerston to undertake the training to qualify as instructors on the newly released course that is now known as the Bronze Wings course! With this day we were able to successfully upskill 6 members of staff! πŸ₯³

On Sunday 643 AGS ran our first Bronze Wings Course under the new syllabus, and had 6 cadets visit the unit from Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire Wing ATC. The cadets all worked very hard and spent the day practicing their flight simulator skills with the day split between 3 theory and practical sessions. After a long day all 6 cadets went home with their Bronze Wings certificates and badges!

This was a hugely successful weekend for both the staff and cadets and long may we continue to achieve!

Congratulations to all that took part this weekend, you should all be very proud of yourselves! πŸ‘πŸΌ

Last weekend we ran another Bronze Wings Course for Cadets in Trent Wing Air Cadets. With a lot of hard work and practice all 6 cadets were successful in being awarded their Bronze Wings.

We are proud to see the journey the Cadets take when running these courses as there is a variety of experience when the cadets arrive at RAF Syerston, and they leave having gained valuable knowledge to take back to their squadrons and advance in their aviation careers.

Congratulations to all who attended the course - really well deserved!
