23 faces. 23 voices. 23 young people diagnosed every day. πŸ’œ

This month, we shared the stories of 23 young people living with epilepsy. Each shared some of the scariest moments of their epilepsy journey.

To everyone who shared their experiences with us: a HUGE thank you. Your openness has helped more people understand the reality of epilepsy and why awareness matters.

With just 1 day to go until , this is your chance to support our Purple Day Appeal. πŸ’œ

Seizures can be frightening. They can leave children feeling confused, in pain and alone.
No child should live in fear of their own body.

Help stop the fear of seizures by donating TODAY - https://www.youngepilepsy.org.uk/purple-day-appeal

With the money raised, Young Epilepsy can fund vital research into childhood epilepsies and provide day-to-day support that truly transforms young lives.

Together, we can turn fear into hope.

Memory issues are common for many people with epilepsy.

Seizures can affect short-term memory, and people with frequent or uncontrolled seizures may also find it harder to remember events from the past. Sometimes it can feel like trying to piece together a jigsaw puzzle when some of the pieces are missing.

This is often because seizures affect parts of the brain involved in memory, such as the temporal lobe, where memories are formed.

Memory can also be affected before, during, and after a seizure, and some anti-seizure medications may impact concentration or cause tiredness.

Better seizure control can often help improve memory difficulties.

You did it! You got us to the final of the Smiley Charity Film Awards! πŸ“½οΈ

Firstly, we would like to say a huge thank you to Lucie, Jo and Etta for letting us into their home and lives so that we could showcase what love with Dravet Syndrome really looks like. Our place as a finalist is a testament to the vulnerability they shared in order to raise crucial awareness around this devastating condition.

We're incredibly grateful to Nutmeg Productions for working with DSUK to produce the film and bring Etta and her family's story to life. πŸ™

We're also thankful to all of you! Without your votes, we wouldn't be finalists among a whole list of wonderful charities and similarly powerful films.

In a few weeks, we'll be attending the Smiley Awards ceremony to see if we've won. Until then, all of our fingers are crossed!🀞
