From our past, we build our future.

Today marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Durlston School.

With a new Headmaster, a new sense of purpose, and a new tradition in our Founders' Day, we bring our whole community together, pupils, parents, and staff, to celebrate the opening of the school and look towards all that is yet to come.

Developing confidence and individual talents. That is our ambition for every pupil. That is the beginning of our next chapter.

A proud past. A new beginning. An exciting future.

Welcome to the new term.

Isla joined Durlston in Reception and has embraced every aspect of school life throughout her time at the school. Her sporting talent, commitment and leadership qualities earned her a Durlston Sport Scholarship, and she has gone on to represent the school at national events as well as playing cricket at county level.

An excellent role model to her fellow pupils, Isla has always strived to achieve her very best, while making the most of the opportunities available to her at Durlston. Among the highlights of her time at the school was a month-long expedition to Kenya, an experience that challenged her, broadened her horizons and helped her grow in confidence.

For her GCSEs, Isla chose Art, Business, History and PE, reflecting the breadth of her interests. She will continue her education at Bryanston School, where she plans to study A Level Psychology alongside a BTEC in Business.

We wish Isla continued success in the future.

Head Boy, Tiosa’s personal growth during his time at Durlston has been particularly impressive. Having never studied Drama or performed in public before joining the school, he developed the confidence and skills to take on significant roles in school productions and achieved a Grade 8 in GCSE Drama. He has become an engaging public speaker, combining self-assurance with genuine humility, qualities that make him a natural leader.

Beyond school, Tiosa has extended his commitment to service and leadership by serving as a Youth Ambassador for Ascension Trust’s educational outreach work in Accra, Ghana. His time at Durlston has given him the encouragement and opportunities to discover new strengths, step beyond his comfort zone and develop into a confident young man and leader.

Tiosa will continue his studies at Wi******er College, building on his outstanding Grade 9 in GCSE Mathematics. He plans to study A level Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Economics.

Congratulations Tiosa, we look forward to following your journey beyond Durlston.

Meet Kitty, who joined Durlston at the start of Year 9 after completing her Prep education at Walhampton School.

Kitty’s caring nature and positive attitude quickly made her a valued member of the year group. During her GCSE years, she particularly flourished in Art. With the encouragement of our Art Department, she developed the confidence to explore her interests, experiment creatively and grow as an artist.

We are delighted that Kitty achieved a fantastic Grade 9 in GCSE Art. She is also a committed and talented sportswoman, representing her county in cricket.

Alongside Art, PE and Geography, Kitty maintained a strong focus on Maths, English and Science. She also made full use of Durlston’s individualised academic support, including the Learning Clinic and revision sessions, helping her build confidence and achieve her potential.

Kitty will now continue her studies at Barton Peveril College.

“I am grateful that my teachers believed in me, recognised my potential and encouraged me to push myself, while giving me the support I needed to do so.”

We wish Kitty every success for the next stage of her journey.

Our Modern Languages results reflect not only academic achievement, but the confidence, curiosity and individual talent that we want every Durlston pupil to develop.

From September, we are building on this success. As well as French that is currently taught from Year 1, we will also be introducing Spanish. This will give our pupils the opportunity to discover more languages from an early age and develop a genuine enthusiasm for communicating with the wider world.

We are also taking learning beyond the classroom through 'Remote Durlston' our bespoke residential experiences combining French, adventure and cultural immersion, alongside winter ski and summer adventurous activity programmes for pupils in Years 7–10.

Our new aim is simple:
Developing Confidence and Individual Talent.

Through academic excellence, languages, adventure and opportunity, we want every Durlston pupil to discover what they can achieve and have the confidence to go further.

Georgiy’s mum’s story...

When we arrived in the UK four years ago, fleeing the war in Ukraine, the news that Georgiy had been accepted to Durlston School felt like a fairytale – a dream coming true at a time when our lives had been turned upside down.

He joined the school in June 2022, barely speaking any English. From his very first day, he was surrounded by care, patience, encouragement and incredible kindness. Not only from his teachers and the wonderful school staff, but also from the children and their families.

Durlston gave him far more than an education. It gave him a sense of belonging, confidence, friendships and the belief that he could find his place and succeed.

Four years later, the boy who could barely speak English is celebrating his GCSE results as Deputy Head Boy and as a confident, responsible and thoughtful young man.

I could not be more proud of him.

Some of the results were expected, while others came as a wonderful and very happy surprise. There is no doubt that they are the result of his hard work, determination and perseverance. But I also know that none of this would have been possible without the extraordinary support, encouragement and belief he found at Durlston School.

And I am grateful beyond words to the entire Durlston family – thank you will never be enough.

Some people enter your life and simply change its course. Durlston School has been that for us.

Forever Grateful.

Durlston School wishes Georgiy continued happiness and success as he continues his studies King Edward VI School Southampton sixth form, where he plans to study A Level Maths, Spanish and Economics.
