One of our children said “look! an upside down rainbow”

How exciting! We are now learning all about today’s solar halo.

This is a 22-degree solar halo, an optical phenomenon created by sunlight refracting through ice crystals in high-altitude cirrus clouds.

The ring has an apparent radius of approximately 22 degrees around the sun, similar to how rainbows form with water droplets.

These halos can indicate the presence of moisture high in the atmosphere, often arriving before a rain event
