💧 ELECTROLYTES – DO WE REALLY NEED THEM?
With the warmer weather, I thought I'd share a little reminder about hydration. 🌞💦
When we sweat, we lose not only water but also electrolytes — particularly sodium, potassium and magnesium. These minerals help support normal muscle and nerve function and fluid balance.
There are SO many electrolyte products available now, and they aren't all the same. Some are essentially a very sugary drink with a small amount of electrolytes added.
When choosing one, I like to look at:
✨ How much sodium it provide
✨ Whether it contains other useful electrolytes such as potassium and magnesium
✨ How much sugar is added
✨ The overall ingredient list
🥇 3 options worth looking at
1️⃣ DuoLife FIZZY EASY Electrolyte COMPLEX
This is the one I personally use. It provides sodium, potassium and glucose, together with vitamin C. One recommended serving provides 900mg sodium and 300mg potassium, with only 1.6g sugars.
Duolife
2️⃣ Precision Hydration
A very good option if you're looking for a sports-focused electrolyte product, with different strengths depending on how much you sweat.
3️⃣ LMNT
A particularly simple, zero-sugar option containing sodium, potassium and magnesium. It is quite high in sodium — 1,000mg per sachet — so it's more appropriate for people who sweat heavily rather than something everyone needs every day.
🍋 And you can make a simple version at home!
For everyday hydration, you don't need an expensive powder.
Try:
💧 500–750ml water
🍋 Juice of ½ lemon
🧂 A small pinch of salt
🌿 Optional: a little fresh mint
Shake, chill and enjoy!
It's a simple way of adding some sodium and flavour to your water. Himalayan salt is fine to use, but don't be fooled into thinking it is a significantly better source of electrolytes — it is still predominantly salt (sodium chloride).
The electrolytes ARE great for those hot days, sweaty workouts, longer exercise sessions or when you really need them. ❤️
Listen to your body, keep hydrated and forget that more isn't always better!
