You do not need to spend years in college or put the rest of your life on hold to start taking on upholstery projects.

Our Studio Foundations of Upholstery course has been designed for people who want real, hands-on training — but need that training to fit around work, family and everything else life throws at them.

With 30 years of upholstery experience behind us, we know which skills genuinely matter, which techniques transfer across different projects and how to teach them in a way that makes sense. This course brings that experience together in a practical, relevant and achievable format.

Across 12 flexible studio days, you’ll complete 7 practical upholstery projects, each designed to build your skills, technique and confidence step by step.

You choose your dates from our available Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, beginning from September onwards. There is no rigid weekly timetable and no one-size-fits-all approach.

You’ll learn in the room with us, in a small group of no more than six students, with hands-on teaching and real-time feedback throughout.

This course is suitable for complete beginners, whether you want to:

✨ learn a practical creative skill
✨ create pieces that are just you
✨ build confidence
✨ start a side hustle
✨ explore a complete career change

We’re Anthony and Susie, and upholstery has shaped our lives in more ways than we could ever have imagined.

Between us, we bring more than 40 years of experience across upholstery, teaching and running a creative business. It has given us practical skills, a career, a business, a creative outlet and a life built around helping other people discover what they are capable of.

Six years ago, Anthony was diagnosed with MS.

That changed how we work, how we teach and how we think about accessibility.

We know that life does not always fit neatly around a rigid timetable. Health, work, family, money, confidence and energy can all affect how and when someone is able to learn.

That is why we are proudly doing upholstery education differently.

We believe learning should be practical, flexible, supportive and built around real people and real lives. So whether you want to learn online from home, join us in our studio in Disley, Stockport, take a short creative course, build your foundations or explore upholstery as a future business, there is a place to start.

Upholstery could become your creative outlet, your new skill, your side hustle, your confidence, your next direction — or simply something that feels completely yours.

Our Online Foundations of Upholstery Course is designed for people with jobs, families, responsibilities and busy lives — but who still want to do something creative, build genuine skills and discover where upholstery could take them.

Beginning in October 2026, you’ll work through one carefully structured module each month, learning in your own time, in your own space, without being left to figure it all out alone.

You do not need loads of spare time, a workshop or previous experience to begin learning upholstery.

Most people who enquire about Foundations of Upholstery are balancing work, children, family life, confidence issues or simply the feeling that they’ve left their creativity behind somewhere along the way.

Instead of rigid weekly classes, you’ll receive one guided upholstery module each month between June and December, allowing you to learn properly around real life — without the pressure of constantly trying to keep up.

Alongside the seven practical projects, we’ll meet live on the first Thursday of every month for our Studio Gatherings.

These sessions are about so much more than upholstery.

We’ll talk honestly about:
• confidence
• pricing work
• fabrics & interiors
• creative business
• finding your style
• social media
• motivation
• clients
• side hustles

“I don’t think this is for people like me…”

If you keep looking at beautifully upholstered pieces and thinking, “I love this… but I wouldn’t even know where to begin.”
