Today's two sessions prepped. A variety of hands-on resources to support students who benefit from multi-sensory teaching. Memory card game (pairs) to develop working memory; sentence dominoes for learning how to 'build' sentence structures; place value equipment for understanding decimals; sandpaper letters for spelling work; poetry for working on expression. And something sweet for halfway through... Or brain food, as I like to call it. Seeing children start to engage with enthusiasm makes every session worthwhile.

Other than a little light summer catch-up tutoring, Rocky and I are taking a bit of a break. Full tutoring will recommence on September 8th with the start of the Derbyshire term. I am currently working with children from year 5 to year 9 inclusive. If you think your child (between year 3 and year 8/9) might benefit from some one-to-one support with either English or Maths or both, and needs a confidence boost, then drop me a line. Sessions are available for September.

It may only be April but the end of the academic year looms already. For parents thinking of entering children for grammar school entrance exams, now is the time to start looking at additional support before the January tests. Equally for children who might need a bit of a boost before SATs in 2026, you may find starting slightly sooner than September this year will help. I'm currently teaching children between years 4-8 so if you have a child in years 7 or 8 and you feel they need some additional support, do get in touch for a chat. Rocky and I look forward to welcoming new children soon!

As the end of August approaches and the new school term is looming, if you have been thinking of getting some additional support for your child (whether catch up learning or preparation for entrance exams), do get in touch. Places are available for tutoring from September 9th. Children I teach generally come from schools around the New Mills, Thornsett, Hayfield and Marple area. Now we are coming to the end of summer term, Rocky and I are already thinking ahead to September and hope to welcome new students. If you have been thinking about tutoring for your child (years 3-9 inclusive), please do drop me a line. You'll find details on my Peak Edge Tutoring page or website. If you just want to have a chat and see if tutoring might help your child, that's fine too. There are several places available for September. I cover both maths and English and can equally prepare children for entrance exams, help with catch up, or support those with dyslexia and/or dyscalculia. Having a chat is free! Give me a call.

From May 20th, Peak Edge Tutoring will have spaces for new pupils. If you have a child between 7 and 13 years old (years 3 to 9) who you think would benefit from some one-to-one support with Maths and English, please do take a look at my Peak Edge page and linked website. I have 12 years experience as a primary teacher (three as a deputy headteacher), five as a personal tutor and specialist qualification in primary maths teaching. Over the last five years, I have worked with children with very different needs, from those preparing for entrance exams or SATs, to those needing to catch up on lost learning through Covid. I am also increasingly supporting children with dyslexia and dyscalculia, who may feel at a loss in a classroom. For a no-obligation chat about your child, do drop me a line. I look forward to hearing from you.

It's that time of year again, where we're sliding towards the SATs and exam season, which means that a few places for tutoring will likely open up by the end of May. Rocky is primed to welcome new pupils! If you have a child in years 3 to 9 (aged 7-13) who you think would benefit from a boost to their confidence through one-to-one sessions, please do drop me a message and we can have a preliminary chat without obligation. My details can be found on my Peak Edge Tutoring page.

School may be nearly out for summer, but I am already thinking ahead to September and planning for existing and new pupils. Currently, there are a couple of spaces available for new children to begin tutoring with me in September. So if you have a child aged 7 to 13, who you feel might benefit from some additional support in English and/or Maths, or your child will be sitting independent school entrance exams in January, please do get in touch to see if I can help. My current and past pupils have come to me from schools in Hayfield, Marple, and New Mills. You can also find more information about Peak Edge Tutoring and my approach to teaching on my website link. Rocky and I will look forward to seeing you in September!

So here we are at the end of another successful term - a term in which Rocky and I have said goodbye and good luck to some lovely children who no longer need our help, and hello and welcome to some new children who are just at the beginning of a journey with us! We've celebrated the success of all five children who took entrance exams in January, all of whom were offered their preferred school places. We've watched children grow in confidence and discover they know and can do much more than they thought. We've filled learning gaps, stretched minds and imaginations and hopefully had a bit of fun along the way.

As we head towards the last term of the 2022/23 school year, it is likely that more children will soon be moving on and gaps will become available in what is currently a full schedule. I keep a waiting list for new children and openings are usually filled rapidly. So, a word to the wise... if you are considering tutoring sessions for your child (between year 3 and year 8) and hope to start in September (or earlier), NOW is the time to get in touch. By September, it is highly likely that my schedule will be full once again. Details of how to contact me can be found on my page. You may also want to take a look at my website at https://kenyonsj.wixsite.com/mysite and you can also contact me directly via the page.

As you will know, I mostly work with children aged from about 8-13 yrs old, so from years 4 to 8. Sometimes I am asked about working with KS1 children or about working with children with different needs. I always try to give the best advice to parents and where I don't think I am best equipped to support a child, will always say so. However, I know that there are parents of KS1 children who would like support for their children earlier, as well as parents of children with different needs who are worried and need some help. That is why I am happy to be able to tell you about Linden Wilde.
Linden has 30 years experience as a class teacher and 7 years as a special needs support teacher and has worked in schools both across Derbyshire and North Auckland, New Zealand, where she originally trained. She is also a trained Reading Recovery specialist teacher, who specialises in working with younger children who struggle to learn to read, write and spell. She understands how children are all very different and learn differently. She is exceptionally patient and kind.
If you are looking for a tutor to work with your younger child (in the 5-9 range) struggling with literacy, I would highly recommend talking to Linden to see how she could help. You can contact her directly on 01663 743502 or 07485 638298.
Alternatively, you can message me and I will pass on your details to her.

Hi everyone. Just an update about availability of tutoring sessions at the moment. I work on the basis of ten sessions per week and all sessions are currently taken. I operate a waiting list and aim to offer places that become available in order of time on that list. If you are looking for a tutor immediately, then this may not be suitable for you. However, if you are happy to be added to the waiting list, please do still get in touch, by messenger or email. I am always happy to talk and give parents a realistic idea of timescales.
I am currently working with children from year 5 to year 7 but have worked with others previously from year 3 up to year 9. I aim to create a friendly environment in which the children feel confident to ask when they don't understand and to share concepts they have not grasped properly at school. I hope that even those who are at first hesitant or anxious, leave feeling more confident. Many thanks to all the supportive parents who have so far put their trust in me since I began this in Sept 2019. I didn't know how successful it would be, but haven't looked back.
