CGS LRC TOP TIP!
10 mins of reading per day can help you relax, boost your mood & escape elsewhere - and it doesn’t have to be a book. Reading something that interests you can transport you away from day-to-day life (National Literacy Trust).

Join our new Coombe Medsoc Club, launched by two students this month, offering an opportunity to find out more about study and careers in medicine and healthcare.
Ms Barns 🗣️"I was very pleased to hear from Mrs Gates that two Year 12 students have started an extra curricular club this term, Coombe MedSoc, for Years 8-13. Providing a chance for like-minded students to meet and discuss all things medicine and healthcare, this a terrific initiative. Congratulations and thanks to Seeun and Zainab!

1 week to go until the Coombe Federated Careers Fair! All Y9-13 Coombe students are invited as well as parents/carers to attend between 6-8.30pm. There will be over 50 national and local employers together with higher education institutions participating in the fair. These cover a wide range of employer sectors, with the aim of appealing to a vast range of student career interests.
The Coombe Federated Careers Fair provides a fantastic opportunity to speak to a wide range of career professionals. There will also be opportunities for students to discuss possible work experience placements, apprenticeships and graduate schemes. A full list of employers attending will be sent to families soon.

A 'silver lining' at the end of a very soggy day at CGS? This double 🌈🌈 over the Quad should do it! 😍

🗣️Mr De Courcey:
We're delighted to announce that we're partnering with Usborne Sara’s Story Store again this year to celebrate .
We are once again participating in a sponsored read, for all year groups, running from 3rd-9th March, as a means of raising money for books for the school. Usborne will provide free books depending on how much we raise.
Last year we managed to raise £350, providing a fantastic selection of new books for our library, helping to develop a culture of reading at CGS.
The reading log (complete with QR code for online submission of reading and money raised) and a letter outlining everything you need to know about the event itself has been sent home via email.
In addition to the sponsored read across the week, the English department will be running other events on the day itself, Thursday the 6th March such as:
- A redesign your favourite book cover competition (2 prizes per year group 3-9th March)
- A break and lunch time book quote treasure hunt (prizes available)
- A form time big book quiz
- Our whole school ‘stop, drop and read’ during P5
Please encourage your daughter to take part in all events where possible and we look forward to celebrating all things literary next week!

Welcome back - we hope you had a great break and we look forward to seeing students at 8.30am today for the second half of term. Please note, we're making some helpful and efficient updates to our website to better assist parents and carers when contacting the school.
✅ Available now! Using the new contact form options will help to direct queries to the correct team. For example, if you need to contact a year group or the headteacher's office, there is a dedicated option to choose from the drop-down menu. Head to www.coombegirlsschool.org/contact-us to view the updates.
🔜 Coming soon! Later this year, we will also be updating the Absence & Lateness Reporting process, using Arbor. The new link to report absence or lateness will be available on our website as before, with a dedicated page for parents and carers (including a handy "How to Report Absence on Arbor" guide) and a new function: how to request a planned absence .There's nothing for parents and carers to do right now - the reporting system remains the same and we will keep you updated on the incoming changes through our usual channels: school-wide email, social media pages, on our website and in our monthly newsletter.
Thank you for your continued support. 🙏

Last week, Ms Barns welcomed News to school. Journalist Sooyoung Ahn was interested in the school's relationship with our partners in the Wimbledon Independent-State Schools Partnerships, particularly the process or running joint activities and events. It was great to talk about this positive and creative initiative!
