We are now well back into the flow for our summer assessments. Our summer holiday this year was a road trip visiting family and friends, we went to Nuneaton, Knebworth, Southsea, Guildford, Oxford, Stratford ( where we saw a relative we hadn’t seen for 40 years!) Wrexham and Chester.

We were asked do you miss school holidays?

Our answer no we don’t because there is no flexibility, and when Sara was full time in school the work regularly went on holiday with us, it felt like no holidays at all. Now when we are on holiday we are on holiday so only 4 weeks a year but actually on holiday.

Mentoring available during August only. £50 per hour.

This is an out of term time service we can offer, slots are limited.

Available by an online platform by mutual agreement or over the phone, you would also be welcome to travel to our garden office if you prefer face to face, or you can use the time to get written feedback on a report.

We would have an initial chat and decide how you want to use the time and then arrange dates/ times from there.

This is aimed at ⬇️

✋Newly qualified assessors
✋Trainee assessors who feel they need extra support. NB we can offer guidance and support on assessing and specialist teaching methods but we cannot advise on anything related to your provider’s assessment of your work. For example we can’t check a report that you would ultimately submit.
✋Assessors who are returning from a break.
✋Assessors who assess infrequently and feel they need guidance.

Email Sara directly to arrange this service [email protected]

The office is now closed until Weds 22nd July 9am.

If you are considering a diagnostic assessment for dyslexia, there are 2 slots remaining in August.

Dates are still reasonably flexible when we allocate August assessments it is the number of assessments we can fit in around other work/ training rather than actual dates that we allocate.

This year for the first time ever we will not be taking on more than planned to meet demand.

Email [email protected] to make an enquiry, outline any dates you are on holiday.

As schools have a lot of trips, events and various extra curricular activities on the run up to the summer holidays, we take our annual leave during that time.

July 2026 we will be closed from Wednesday 8th July at 4pm until 9am on Wednesday 22nd July.

We are open throughout August. However whilst assessment dates/ meetings/ live training sessions are fixed, we work flexibly on reports/ paperwork/ on demand training.

A question from a parent wanting to book a dyslexia assessment.

Why has X’s school bought you in to offer specialist teacher advice and then tell us as parents it’s not a dyslexia diagnosis when this is what we asked for when we spoke to the SENCo.

Our answer- we can’t comment on the conversation you had with the SENCo but we hope she would have explained that they don’t offer diagnostic assessments. Sadly, in short this is down to budget, if we carry out literacy screenings or a general screen of need it is possible for us to see 3-6 children in a day (depending on the level of detail required from the assessment) whereas a full assessment needs 3 hours per child. In most circumstances where schools budget for a fixed number of specialist teacher days across the year, overall the number of children supported by our visits would be lower than if we carry out screenings and our schools tell us that the screenings give them adequate information to support the child, we agree that a diagnosis can be very helpful but most schools won’t offer this!

We have been asked why are there no prices on your website?

The answer:

We don’t have a fixed pricing structure in the sense that it is £x per hour or £x per day as a blanket price, it depends on what individual schools require, we also like to explain what’s involved in the costs for example 5 hours in school doing access arrangements involves admin time and additional specialist teacher time outside school, we also have other expenses to factor than salaries when setting costs but we operate a fair system and this is why it’s flexible not fixed, a couple of examples are provided below to illustrate how we quote prices.

We support a very local school with access arrangements, they pay a lower rate than a school a similar distance away who wants screening and diagnostic assessments as part of their package simply because there is less writing up away from school involved in purely access arrangements support.

A school a one hours drive away pays more for a day using our specialist teacher package than a school 20 minutes away as we factor travel expenses into the price quoted. On one occasion the school an hour away used online consultancy as one of their days and they paid a lower rate commensurate with local schools.

When we carry out diagnostic assessments we offer a reduced price for local schools or for the option of adults and parents funding assessments to come to us.

Parents don’t realise what’s involved, they sometimes think it’s a screening like their child has done at school but by someone with higher qualifications, for the time involved in that they probably wouldn’t contact if they saw the price, but we are able to set the context and explain that it’s around 3 hours assessment, time to analyse the results and prepare the detailed report so they see what they are paying for.
