π Our Week in Childcare π
We've had another lovely week full of learning, creativity, and special moments together! π₯°
π Monday we celebrated World Ocean Day by helping to rescue sea animals from "polluted" water, using recyclable materials to talk about keeping our oceans clean. In the afternoon, we enjoyed a walk to visit the horses, giving us the chance to explore nature, get some fresh air, and develop our understanding of the world around us.
π¦ Tuesday was lots of messy fun in the mud kitchen as we made pretend ice creams using shaving foam! We also created shaving foam tracks for our cars and tractors to explore. One of the highlights of the day was watching our final butterfly hatch from its cocoon β a wonderful opportunity to observe change and growth firsthand.
π¦ Wednesday we practised recognising shapes by building beautiful butterflies from different shaped pieces. This helped develop our mathematical skills while encouraging creativity and problem-solving.
π₯£ Thursday we enjoyed some imaginative role play, pretending to dig and explore using different types of cereal. Role play activities help children develop communication skills, confidence, and creativity while having lots of fun.
π Friday was a very special day as we released our butterflies into the world after watching their amazing life cycle. We also celebrated the King's Public Birthday ahead of tomorrow by decorating crowns and having a Trooping of the Colours in our rice tray.
Throughout the week, the children have been developing skills including Communication and Language, Understanding the World, Mathematics, Physical Development, and Expressive Arts and Design. Our activities also support children's mental health and emotional wellbeing by encouraging curiosity, resilience, confidence, outdoor exploration, and opportunities to share experiences with friends.
We are so proud of all the children's enthusiasm, kindness, and willingness to try new things this week. π
Have a wonderful weekend everyone! βοΈ

π¦ Butterfly Discovery Display π¦
Our butterfly area has been very popular today as the children continue exploring the fascinating world of butterflies!
We can practice our counting and colour recognition skills using the flying butterflies on the wall, counting how many we can spot and talking about the different colours and patterns on their wings.
π¨ The children can also enjoy decorating a large cardboard butterfly using loose parts, flowers and natural materials, encouraging creativity, fine motor skills and imaginative thinking.
ππΈ We have been learning about what butterflies eat by exploring oranges and flowers, discussing how butterflies use their long proboscis to drink nectar from plants.
π To extend our learning, we have been using our butterfly identification guide to look at the many different types of butterflies, comparing their colours, shapes and markings.
And most importantly the children and staff are thoroughly enjoying checking in our butterflies! π¦
This display links perfectly with our real-life butterfly journey, helping the children develop an understanding of life cycles, nature and the amazing transformations that happen in our environment.

π This Week at Childcare π
We've had another busy week full of learning, creativity and exciting discoveries!
π΄π‘π΅ Colours & Shapes The children have been exploring different colours and shapes through a variety of activities, helping to build their recognition and understanding through play.
ππ’π Learning About Emotions We talked about feelings through messy play and playdough, creating our very own emotion monsters. The children also used mirrors to draw self-portraits, encouraging conversations about how we feel and what makes us happy, sad, excited or surprised.
π Car-Themed Fun The children loved painting with toy cars, creating colourful tracks and patterns. We also explored road safety through our tuff tray, discussing how to stay safe near roads and when crossing.
ππ¦π§ Animal Adventures Our animal-themed tuff tray sparked lots of imaginative play and conversations about different animals and their habitats. We also enjoyed animal colouring activities throughout the week.
π A Special Visitor This week we found a tired bee on the garden floor. The children showed great kindness and care by helping us give it some sugar water and placing it near flowers. We enjoyed observing it before it flew away, learning about the importance of bees and how they help our environment.
π¨π§΅ Creative Crafts We got busy with lots of crafting activities and practised our fine motor skills through pasta threading, developing hand-eye coordination and concentration.
π¦ Butterfly Update! The most exciting news of the week... 3 of our 5 butterflies hatched this morning! The children were fascinated watching the transformation and couldn't wait to see them emerge. We're now eagerly waiting for the remaining two butterflies to join them.
What a wonderful week of learning, exploring and growing together! β€οΈπ¦ππ¨πβ¨

π¦ Exciting Caterpillar Update! π¦
Our caterpillars have reached the next stage of their amazing journey and have now all cocooned! We carefully transferred the chrysalides into the butterfly habitat, where they can safely complete their transformation.
Over the past few weeks, the children have loved observing the caterpillars grow and change. We've talked about the butterfly life cycle, learned new vocabulary such as caterpillar, chrysalis and butterfly, and discussed how living things grow and develop.
Now comes the hardest part... waiting! β³ Some of us are being very patient, while others are checking the net every few minutes to see if a butterfly has appeared yet! π
The children and staff are excitedly making predictions about when they will hatch and what they will look like when they emerge. We can't wait to witness the final stage of this incredible life cycle and release our butterflies into the garden.
Watch this space for more butterfly updates! π¦πΌ

πβ¨ A Week Full of Fun & Learning β¨π
This week the children have had lots of fun exploring bubbles, colours, nature and sea life! π«§ππ
We enjoyed colourful bubble play where the children practiced their bubble blowing skills, explored different colours and textures, and watched the bubbles move around the tray. This supported Communication and Language through conversations and turn taking, while also developing Physical Development as the children strengthened their mouth muscles and coordination through blowing and scooping.
The children also learnt all about strawberries π
We explored how our strawberries are growing and talked about the life cycle of a strawberry plant. The children enjoyed sensory play, painting their own strawberries and exploring different textures. This helped support Understanding the World as they learned about growth and nature, alongside Expressive Arts and Design through creative painting activities.
We also had lots of fun with our sea life sensory tray ππ
The children explored sea animals, rocks and water play while using their imaginations to create their own underwater adventures. This encouraged Imaginative Play, Communication and Language, and early problem-solving skills.
A lovely week full of exploring, creating and learning through play π
