Throwback to last week's Level 2 Results Day: for Holly Allwood, a successful year at Reaseheath has brought her closer to her dream career, while giving her the confidence to tackle her GCSEs and achieve grades she is incredibly proud of.
Alongside a Distinction in her Foundation Equine course, Holly achieved a grade 6 in GCSE English and grade 5 in Maths after putting in hours of revision and completing practice exams. She describes these as her first GCSE results, making the grades a particularly important milestone.
“Getting a 6 in English and a 5 in Maths made me incredibly pleased as I spent so much time revising and doing mocks and it was well and truly worth it.”
Holly also received the Progress Coach Award for Personal Development, recognising how she has developed her confidence, knowledge and skills during her time at Reaseheath.
“I’ve always made it my goal to be constantly improving myself and my knowledge, to learn as much as possible and become the best version of myself.”
Horses have always been a huge part of Holly’s life, and her Equine course has allowed her to turn that passion into practical experience. She particularly enjoyed the course’s careers weeks, trying activities she had never considered, including carriage driving and working in a racing yard.
Her teachers also encouraged her to step outside her comfort zone, including volunteering to tack up a carriage-driving pony before driving the carriage in front of fellow equine students.
“I loved doing it!”
Living on a farm, Holly has always been around animals, but working with Reaseheath’s wide range of horses has helped her learn to adapt her approach to individual horses – an important skill for her future career.
Holly now hopes to build her skills through a Level 2 Equine apprenticeship, combining further study with hands-on experience at a working yard. She is currently waiting to hear back from an employer.
For Holly, it is another step towards the career she has always wanted.
“Younger me would be very proud to see that I am working hard building my future of having a job being alongside horses, as all I have ever wanted to do is look after horses and help them.”
