🍄 Over the last couple of weeks we have been exploring:

🍁Signs of Autumn in our local area including the nature garden, school field and the local park

⛵Curious Kids Gloucester, Stroud and Cirencester has taught our preschoolers all about why we breathe and how big is the biggest animal!

🌳Both rooms have visited our local area. With walks to Forest Green Rovers and to Lawnside stores! Bob & Suki even gave all the children lollies! We even visited the park! The children loved walking past familiar places and even remembered the route!

🦖We have explored a dinosaur island and the biggest train track ever!

🍎Made apple crumble

🥕We have poured tea, baked cakes and prepared vegetables for soup!

🌋We made the biggest mess with shredded paper, and pretended it was snow, lava and birthday sprinkles. Freya, our apprentice was defeated in battle it seems!

We are hosting one of our fabulous quiz nights with our popular cheese board in the break to boost those brain cells!

🍄 Inclusion Champions!

Yesterday, Julie and I had the pleasure of attending the Inclusion Champion celebration.

It was so lovely to see the impact that the training has had on all of the settings in Gloucestershire and it was a fantastic opportunity to reflect on the journey we have taken over the year to become an Inclusive setting.

I am so proud of our whole staff team at Nailsworth Playgroup for undertaking all of the training required, including our Level 3 SENCO award, Sensory integration occupational therapy, Getting it right for Boys, and receiving our mark of achievement award from Dingleys promise.

We have relied on the guidance, support and friendship from our Inclusion advisor Tracey, and have enjoyed showing her the improvements we have made each visit. Thankyou Tracey for all you have done.

🍄 Paediatric First aid

We have a course running on Saturday 17th October at Nailsworth Playgroup 8:45-4pm.

As only a few of our staff require this training at the moment, we have some spaces available for anyone who may be looking to update their own certificate!

Training provider is Don't Panic! First Aid, and we will be taking part in the blended course - 6 hours online and 6 hours face-to-face (17/10/26)

We have 8 spaces available and the cost will be £65 per person.
You will need to bring your own lunch, but refreshments will be provided.

You will be required to get on to the floor/ kneel for CPR and recovery position practices, and there's a possibility you may be sat on a little chair!

Parking is available on site, and we are on a main bus route from Stroud - Merrywalks (No 63 bus)

🍄 Thankyou to all our parents who worked with us to keep the children safe and cool this week.

A more comfortable temperature tomorrow and we will be open as normal.

🍄After consulting with many other local early years settings and conducting risk assessments throughout the day, I have come to the decision that we will close from 12:30pm on Wednesday and Thursday this week due to the red weather alert.

All our children fall into the at-risk group of heatstroke, and we are unable to keep all of our children cool and comfortable. Our gardens are reaching record temperatures, with our astro turf and tarmac reaching over 60 degrees by 10:30am, this means it is unsafe to use water play in the garden as a way to cool down.
Even with a small air conditioning unit running continuously we are unable to bring the room temperature down to a safe level this afternoon.

I understand that this may cause some disruption, but I hope you can understand that the welfare of the children and staff at Nailsworth Playgroup is paramount.

Currently we plan to open as usual on Friday but we will evaluate as the week progresses. Invoices will be altered accordingly to reflect the amended hours.

🍄Next week we have been issued an Amber warning for extreme heat.

We have purchased air conditioning units to try and cool the rooms, and we will be providing water play including *paddling pools for the children to play in. Please provide labelled swimwear, spare clothes and a towel.

At the hottest points of the day we may need to come inside and calmer activities and chill out zones will be encouraged.

If you decide to keep your child home instead, please as usual, let us know via email, text or phone call.

*Children not be left unattended at any point when paddling pools are in use.

🍄 We loved our preschool Curious Kids Gloucester, Stroud and Cirencester session with Hannah yesterday.

🦷The children explored the question 'why do my teeth get wobbly?'

🧚‍♀️They loved participating in a dissolving experiment, learned all about teeth roots and made a beautiful tooth fairy box.

🚜The children particularly enjoyed the sensory tray set up this week learning about where our food comes from!

We can't wait until our last session of the year on 30th June, answering 'why do I hear sounds?'

Just a reminder that photo day is this Friday morning. All children will be photographed but our preschoolers moving to school will also have additional graduation photos taken.

📸If your child does not usually attend on this day you may book a remaining slot to pop in between 9:45 - 10:30. Please email us to book.
