🍄 Thankyou to all our parents who worked with us to keep the children safe and cool this week.

A more comfortable temperature tomorrow and we will be open as normal.

🍄After consulting with many other local early years settings and conducting risk assessments throughout the day, I have come to the decision that we will close from 12:30pm on Wednesday and Thursday this week due to the red weather alert.

All our children fall into the at-risk group of heatstroke, and we are unable to keep all of our children cool and comfortable. Our gardens are reaching record temperatures, with our astro turf and tarmac reaching over 60 degrees by 10:30am, this means it is unsafe to use water play in the garden as a way to cool down.
Even with a small air conditioning unit running continuously we are unable to bring the room temperature down to a safe level this afternoon.

I understand that this may cause some disruption, but I hope you can understand that the welfare of the children and staff at Nailsworth Playgroup is paramount.

Currently we plan to open as usual on Friday but we will evaluate as the week progresses. Invoices will be altered accordingly to reflect the amended hours.

🍄Next week we have been issued an Amber warning for extreme heat.

We have purchased air conditioning units to try and cool the rooms, and we will be providing water play including *paddling pools for the children to play in. Please provide labelled swimwear, spare clothes and a towel.

At the hottest points of the day we may need to come inside and calmer activities and chill out zones will be encouraged.

If you decide to keep your child home instead, please as usual, let us know via email, text or phone call.

*Children not be left unattended at any point when paddling pools are in use.

🍄 We loved our preschool Curious Kids Gloucester, Stroud and Cirencester session with Hannah yesterday.

🦷The children explored the question 'why do my teeth get wobbly?'

🧚‍♀️They loved participating in a dissolving experiment, learned all about teeth roots and made a beautiful tooth fairy box.

🚜The children particularly enjoyed the sensory tray set up this week learning about where our food comes from!

We can't wait until our last session of the year on 30th June, answering 'why do I hear sounds?'

Just a reminder that photo day is this Friday morning. All children will be photographed but our preschoolers moving to school will also have additional graduation photos taken.

🍄 This afternoon we had a visit from Olive the lamb!

🐑 Olive inspired some wonderful conversations about many things, such as her little hooves, how she was so soft "like a cloud" and how some of the children would like to be farmer when they grow up.

🍄This afternoon, we decided to go on an adventure! We walked to the woods together, where we played in the trees and climbed on a fallen tree trunk! We listened to the sounds in the wood, the leaves blowing on the trees and the birds singing. We talked about the creatures that live in the woods, the children suggested that Foxes and Badgers may live there.

🌳We walked to the Miles Marling playing field where we all enjoyed a play in the park, we all took it in turns to play on the zip wire and the swing. We went into the neighboring field and picked flowers and rolled down the hill!

🚌The children showed how sensible they could be walking near the roads. They listened to the adults instructions and held hands with a partner or an adult. We waved at the people we walked past and even got a big beep from the Bus as it drove past!

🍄 Yesterday afternoon we visited by one of our parents and some little bantam chicks and ducklings from their farm!

🦆Both rooms loved stroking them, holding them and listening to them cheep! They were very careful with them and asked some really relevant questions such as 'do they need water?' 'can they eat a biscuit?' and 'why is it soft?'.

🐤Hannah explained the difference between the feathers too, showing how ducks have waterproof feathers that feel rougher and the chicks had very soft feathers.
