The Secret Garden Montessori School of Nailsea offers a first class early years Montessori education for 0-5 year olds, in a stimulating and homely environment. The nursery operates on a ‘free flow’ model, during which the children explore activities of their choice to maximise learning opportunities, in different rooms or outside in the garden. Our staff are Montessori trained and each child has a designated key worker to monitor and encourage each child's personal development, regularly liaising with the parents. Our curriculm covers literacy, numeracy, music, art and also languages, (French, Spanish and Polish), taught conversationally. Additionally, we have Forest School sessions in a local private wooded area, which provides the children with a unique opportunity to learn and enjoy more about nature and have fantastic outdoor adventures with our Forest School Practitioner. We are dedicated to preparing and maintaining the environment with Montessori materials to a very high standard in order to enhance and encourage each child’s development and help them to respect their environment. We encourage a 'hands-on' learning experience to foster age-appropriate development and provide the best opportunity for multi-platform learning across all subjects, in each activity the child participates in. We provide the perfect environment to maximise your child's learning, help them to reach their potential and develop their self-esteem, confidence and independence - in addition to having lots of fun along the way.

🌸 **A Special Goodbye Before Summer Break!** 🌸

What a lovely way to finish the term! We enjoyed a very special picnic in the garden at the nursery, spending time together, enjoying some yummy treats, fresh air, and lots of smiles. 🧺🌿☀️

It was the perfect way to say goodbye before our summer break, and we would like to wish all of our wonderful children and families **an amazing, fun-filled and relaxing holiday!** 💛

We can’t wait to welcome everyone back to nursery on **Tuesday 1st September** for another exciting term together! 🌈

INDEPENDENCE 🧹 🥛 🧥

At our nursery, we believe that supporting children's independence is one of the most important principles of the Montessori approach. We provide an environment where children are encouraged to do things for themselves, helping them develop confidence, responsibility, and a love of learning.

Throughout the day, children are given opportunities to make their own choices, such as selecting activities, choosing where to work, and independently returning materials to their correct places after use. We encourage self-care skills by supporting children to put on and take off their coats and shoes, wash their hands, pour their own drinks, serve their own snacks, and tidy up after themselves.

Our carefully prepared environment allows children to access resources independently, promoting problem-solving and decision-making skills. Rather than completing tasks for children, our educators gently guide and encourage them, giving them the time and confidence to try for themselves. This respectful approach helps children become capable, resilient, and proud of their achievements.

By nurturing independence every day, we are helping children develop essential life skills that will support them both in school and beyond.

One more time...🌳

Tomorrow, our wonderful School Leavers are heading off on their very last Forest School adventure. 🌿🍂

As they set off for one final day of exploring, discovering and making memories, we've been thinking about all of the amazing adventures they've had throughout this year. From building dens and climbing trees to muddy puddles, bug hunts and moments of teamwork, they've grown in confidence, resilience and curiosity every step of the way.

We are so proud of everything they have achieved and all the wonderful memories they've made together. We hope tomorrow is the perfect way to celebrate their Forest School journey before they begin their next exciting chapter.

Later Curriculum 💃 🎨

This week in our later curriculum classes, the children focused on Expressive Arts and Design (EAD).
They expressed themselves through art 🎨, music 🎵 , and team games 👫 , developing their creativity and confidence.
The children also explored different emotions and enjoyed becoming music detectives, listening carefully to identify sounds and playing Sound Bingo to develop their listening skills 👂

⚽🌍 World Cup Celebration Lunch at Nursery🌍⚽

Today, we enjoyed a very special World Cup celebration lunch at nursery! The children had a fantastic time surrounded by football-themed decorations, creating a fun and exciting atmosphere for everyone.

Throughout the day, the children took part in football group times and enjoyed a variety of football activities, sharing their enthusiasm and team spirit with their friends.

For lunch, everyone tucked into a delicious meal of fish fingers and chips, which was a big hit with the children. To make the celebration even more special, Ms Debbie kindly prepared beautiful mini cupcakes decorated with the English flag for everyone to enjoy. Yum!!!

It was a wonderful day full of fun, laughter, and togetherness as we celebrated the spirit of the World Cup! ⚽🏆

This week in our later curriculum, we explored **Understanding the World** through a range of exciting activities. Cooking classes 🍴 🍳

Our weekly cooking classes are a wonderful opportunity for children to explore new tastes, develop practical life skills, and build confidence in the kitchen.
Each week, the children enjoy measuring, mixing, stirring, and preparing simple, healthy recipes while learning about different ingredients and where food comes from.
Cooking activities encourage creativity, support early maths and language development, and help children practise teamwork, patience, and following instructions. Most importantly, our cooking sessions are fun, hands-on experiences that inspire a love of healthy eating and trying new foods.

Vet Play 🐶 🐾

Although we couldn't celebrate "National Take Your Dog to Work Day" at nursery, the children enjoyed taking part in our veterinary role-play area. They explored a range of vet accessories and cared for toy dogs, using X-rays to check their bones and pretending to examine and treat them.

The children talked confidently about how to care for pets at home, discussing the importance of feeding them, giving them water, keeping them clean, and showing them love and kindness. Many children were excited to tell us all about their own pets, sharing their experiences and demonstrating their understanding of responsible pet care through imaginative play.

Literacy 🔤 🖊️

Last week, we finished our Literacy curriculum, and the children worked incredibly hard. They enjoyed exploring phonics and developing their reading and writing skills.

We are now looking forward to another exciting week of learning, and the children can't wait to get started with this week's Maths lessons!

DID YOU KNOW❓ ❓ ❓

As part of our preparation for children who will soon be leaving nursery and moving on to Reception, we organise daily curriculum sessions over a five-month period to support their transition to school. These sessions are carefully planned to help children develop the skills, confidence, and independence they will need for their next stage of learning.

Each week focuses on a different topic, ensuring that all seven areas of the EYFS curriculum are covered through engaging and meaningful activities. This allows children to build on their existing knowledge while developing new skills across all areas of learning and development.

Recently, our focus has been on Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED). During these sessions, children have been exploring different emotions, discussing how they feel in various situations, and learning strategies to manage their feelings. Through stories, group discussions, role-play, and creative activities, the children have shown great enthusiasm in sharing their thoughts and experiences, helping them to develop emotional awareness, empathy, and positive relationships with others.

We are proud of the progress the children are making and look forward to continuing our exciting curriculum programme as they prepare for their transition to Reception ❤️ 🧑‍🎓
