Today we are celebrating the fantastic achievements of our Year 11 students as they receive their GCSE results.

This year group has shown tremendous resilience, determination and character throughout their time at Backwell, truly living our values of being Kind, Curious and Ambitious. We are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved.

Highlights from this year's results include:
⭐ 10% of students achieved all Grade 8s and above

⭐ Average Attainment 8 grade of 5.25
⭐ 33% of all grades awarded were Grades 9-7

⭐ 94% of all grades awarded were Grades 9-4

These excellent outcomes are the result of the hard work and dedication of our students, supported by our exceptional staff and wonderfully supportive parents and carers. Thank you to everyone who has played a part in helping this year group achieve such success.

We are delighted that many of our Year 11 students will be returning to Backwell Sixth Form to continue their studies. We also wish every success to those embarking on apprenticeships, college courses and other exciting opportunities in the local area.

Congratulations, Year 11. You have given us so much to celebrate today and we could not be prouder of all you have accomplished.

Thank you so much for everything over the last school year.
We look forward to seeing everyone, including our new starters in September and our fantastic Year 11 and Year 13 students on results days throughout the summer.

Please remind your young person to look after their planners and phone pouches over the summer break. All students will be using their existing planners (with updates) and phone pouches from September. New starters will be issued with planners and phone pouches.

Many thanks in advance

IMPORTANT – Free School Meals Information - ACTION REQUIRED

As you may be aware there are a number of changes to Free School Meals eligibility from the start of next academic year:
β€’ Eligibility is being expanded for all children and young people who are in households in receipt of Universal Credit.
β€’ Transitional protection is ending at the end of July 2026 (Transactional protection has been in place since April 2018 and meant that pupils becoming eligible for free meals under the benefits-based criteria have retained their entitlement for 6 years, even if their household circumstances have changed).

If your child(ren) already receive(s) free school meals:

As a result of these changes all pupils currently in receipt of free school meals will need to re-check their eligibility over the summer break. Please use this link:

https://fsm.lgfl.net/

to have your child(rens) status for free school meals re-checked (view previous check).

If you have recently applied to North Somerset Council for free school meals from September 2026, then you will now need to reapply (check eligibility) using the link above.
