Nobody warns you how loud a quiet house can be.
You raised them to leave - that was always the job. And still .. the first week after the car pulls away with their boxes in the boot .. the silence can feel like something has been taken rather than achieved.
This is grief .. even though it’s also pride. The two can sit at the same table. You’re not u grateful for missing the mouse .. and you’re not failing at ‘letting go’ because it aches.
I often sit with people in this exact in-between - the identity that quietly asks ‘who am I now?’ now that my parenting role has changed shape.
If the house feels louder than you expected .. my door’s open 🤍
