A massive congratulations to Luke, Mac, Sadie and Savvy, who successfully completed their Silver DofE award this year! π
Over three incredible days, our students covered a massive 25 miles in total, navigating from Mountsorrel to Beacon Hill, on to Bradgate Park and back to Mountsorrel.
Here is a look back at their amazing journey:
On day 1, the team started strong following the Countryside Code and working brilliantly together to navigate the route. At lunchtime, everyone put their training into practice to safely cook meals on outdoor gas stoves. That evening, the students applied transferrable life skills to prepare dinner together - Sadie chopped the veg, Savvy managed the hob and Luke took charge of the washing up! They ended the night relaxing with a David Attenborough documentary requested by Luke. π¬
Despite feeling tired on day 2, the group pulled together to lead different sections of the walk to Bradgate Park, keeping a steady pace so no one was left behind. Their confidence grew as they prepared lunch independently on the gas stoves - even staying completely calm during a sudden thunderstorm! They quickly and safely cleared away their equipment to keep it protected before Sadie and Savvy washed up back at the campsite.
On the final day, the group worked tirelessly to keep spirits high despite getting soaked head to toe! Along the way, they spotted a young jay that couldn't fly due to wet feathers. Savvy calmly moved the bird to a safe, sheltered spot to dry off. The team cheered each other on all the way to the finish line to complete their 25-mile challenge!
Luke, Mac, Sadie and Savvy - we are all immensely proud of your resilience, teamwork and incredible achievement! π
