SCOTLAND’S STORIES - AUTUMN AT THE PRIORY // Congratulations to HNC student Katie .captures.photography whose image was selected to be included in the exhibition which is currently touring with . ⁣

“James Gillespie Graham designed Cambusnethan House or Priory as it is known locally, it was completed in 1820. Although historically the site itself dates to mediaeval times, a tower house was constructed near the current location, this was then replaced with a manor house in the 17th century which sadly burned down in 1810. In the 1980’s the priory was gutted during a fire and all that remains is what we see today. During its time sine it founding it has had for a variety of functions ranging from a hotel to a re-enactment ‘mediaeval banqueting hall’.⁣
There is a local group been created to save the priory who are known as ‘Friends of the Cambusnethan Priory’ it was created in 2014 and hopes to be able to return the building to its former glory. They hope to achieve this by community-driven adaptive reuse, and plan to repurpose it as a visitors centre and also use for functions as well as a café.”⁣

Introducing HND Student...

Heather McIntosh!

"Hello! I’m Heather Mcintosh and I am currently studying HND Photography at New College Lanarkshire. I took an interest in photography a few years back where I eventually decided that I wanted to make a career of it. In 2019, I started studying Higher Photography at Edinburgh College which then led me to HNC and then HND at New College Lanarkshire. Over the years, I have continued to grow as a photographer, with particularly excelling in street and landscape photography.

For our exhibition ‘Transcendent’ I have decided to do street photography. Within my four images, I want to incorporate architecture to give a sense of depth and interest. I am always drawn to these types of images, so I am excited to go ahead and create them. I can’t wait to show you my work and to see how my classmates interpret the theme."

Introducing HND Student...

Wendy Thorley-Ryder!

"Hi, I’m Wendy, I got a taste of photography in the 90’s whilst studying an Art and Craft A level in Manchester. Since then I have had a 30-year career in the health sector from care worker, Bar manager/licensee, prison addictions counsellor and the last 13 years working as a Cognitive behavioural Therapist/psychotherapist, recently starting my own business. Being creative has always been my passion, 4 years ago I started a night class in photography and was hooked! I’ve since completed the HNC & just about to complete the HND! I enjoy landscape photography but have found my groove in Portraiture. For me, this is another way to find out more about people and to help them to feel fantastic and enjoy their final image. The end of year exhibition is titled ‘Transcendence’, my portraits focus on exceptional musicians whose mastery and magnificence of their instrument creates a transcendental art form which is felt by both musician and listener. My other portrait works are varied themes and I hope you enjoy my works so far."

Introducing HND Student...

Murronrose Dunn!

"I’m Murron, I am in my last year at NCL styling HND Photography. It all started with a simple night class in 2019 while I was in my last year of high school. After that I had caught the bug then continued to my NQ, and well the rest is history. Photography has always been an interest of mine, but my passion stems from my dad. He was always playing about with an old point and shoot at events or occasions. When he bought a Nikon D3500, I was fascinated by it. Something about seeing the image immediately, the colours or the (accidental) Bokeh had me hooked.

After three years, I have started to refine my speciality which is advertising photography. This is the style of photography which I am most passionate about, especially composites. This is what I have selected as my theme for our upcoming exhibition “Transcendent” There is something so enjoyable knowing that the only limit to what you can do with an image in photoshop is your own imagination. For my images I have taken the title into my own interpretation using advertising photography. I have taken the title quite literally, but also creating the images has been a transcendent experience."

Introducing HND Student...

Vikki O'Brien!

"Hi, I’m Vikki O’Brien and have been studying photography at New College Lanarkshire since access level. Photography has always been something I’ve had interest in from a younger age and after spending years in childcare, decided to turn a hobby into a possible career. In these past few years, I’ve seen my photography develop so much and have achieved things of which I have only dreamed. I really enjoy outdoor photography, especially landscapes. I now feel I see things in a different way. Landscape photography lets me escape from the stresses of life and reach locations that are hidden or from a different perspective. I prefer to shoot at sunrise as it is a relaxed and peaceful experience. I hope this tranquil and “transcendent” ambient feeling is portrayed through the images I capture for this exhibition and encourages viewers to slow down and take time to reflect. There’s natures beauty out there, you just have to stop and appreciate it."

Introducing HND Student...

Mariola Milewska!

"My passion for photography was born when I get my first camera as a present. I was interested in how the camera works and how the pictures are made, then I decided to study photography to get a better knowledge of this profession. When I started studying, most of the time, I was a huge fan of Fashion photography but by that time, I realize that I really like other types of photography such as sport, advertising, art photography, portraits, and even street photography where I never even think about this kind of photography.

For my exhibition, I would like to show my all knowledge about various aspects of photography and catch people's emotions at a specific time such as doing sport or showing on when they feel excited about a sports event, not only about my favourite."

Introducing HND Student...

Tracy Thom!

"Hi, I’m Tracy and my love for photography started when I was a child. I always had a little point and shoot camera and loved getting a chance to use my dad’s film camera. Now I am the one who always has a camera out, documenting occasions, holidays, and days out. No matter where I am, I always take photographs.

The last 3 years studying have been amazing but very challenging at times – but being a busy mum to my little boy and achieving what I have, has made this all worthwhile. And the knowledge I have gained is unsurpassed. My passion lies in portrait photography and in particular wedding photography, and this is where my future is headed. There’s just something so beautiful and emotionally rewarding about being a part of someone’s special day, and capturing memories which for them, will last a lifetime.

For my exhibition titled Transcendent, I will be photographing a couple’s wedding day which will capture the transcendent beauty of the love they have for each other and the exquisiteness of their special day."
