We are delighted to receive a recognition award for music. We work very closely with One Education for our music provision and music is a very important aspect of our curriculum. We are lucky to have Mr Hawkins as our specialist music teacher. He supports us with our music performances and opportunities beyond school for our pupils. We also use an excellent music programme called Charanga to teach music in classrooms. We also have an excellent choir led by Mrs Jackson. One of the benefits of being part of the Co-op Academies Trust is the opportunities it provides our children. They have taken part in Musicals and Young Musician of the Year.

Well done to everyone who has helped us to gain this award including our brilliant pupils who engage so well in lessons.

WE ARE PROUD TO BE RIGHTS RESPECTING GOLD.......AGAIN!

We are delighted to announce that following our accreditation assessment in October, we have again been awarded Gold by UNICEF UK’s Rights Respecting School programme. As part of the assessment, the Rights Respecting Ambassadors, a selection of children, parents and staff were spoken to about what Rights Respecting looks like in our school. That, along with lots of evidence we presented before the visit, really impressed our assessor. She spoke highly about the children's knowledge of their rights, their confidence in their own voices and their understanding of why the convention of rights is so important.

As a team, we take pride in being a Rights Respecting School, and we are thrilled that the hard work of the Co-op Academy Broadhurst community has been recognised again. We have lots of ideas about how to progress our work further and the Rights Respecting team will be helping plan our next action plan.

At Co-op Academy Broadhurst we are proud to have the Rights Respecting Schools Gold award.

Each moth we focus on one of the Unicef's Right's of the child, this month is:

Article of the Month - ARTICLE 22 (refugee children).
“Children seeking or who have refugee status have the rights set out in the UNCRC. Governments must provide protection and support, and must help children who are separated from their parents to be reunited with their family.”

A child or young person is a refugee if they have had to leave their country to escape war, persecution or natural disaster. Children and young people who are refugees have the right to special protection and help whether they’ve come to England with other people or not. Refugee children and young people don’t lose any of their rights under the UNCRC just because they’ve come from one country to another.

Specific things they have the right to include:
• medical treatment
• education
• shelter
