Introducing Gem, our deputy manager and deputy designated safeguarding lead at Morpeth Explorers, as well as Apprentice Lead across all of our sites.

Gem joined us in August and has brought a wealth of experience in the teaching and learning area for our apprentices but also on the floor with our Acorns who adore her 🥰

She is currently completing her Early Years Teacher course as well as her Level 3 Forest School Lead. We love having Gem with us at Morpeth and we feel lucky to have her as part of our team 🌳🪵

Our children have been getting stuck into their new topics this week! 📚✨

Our Acorns have been enjoying their new core text, *The Noisy Farm*. We’ve been learning about different farm animals and recognising the sounds they make, alongside plenty of hands-on play. 🐑🚜

The children have explored gloop, played with playdough and investigated the different tracks made by big and small tractors. We’ve also been putting those all-important fine motor skills to work with some sheep shearing! 🐑✂️

Meanwhile, our Saplings have been looking a little further afield with their new book, 'Look Up!' 🚀🌙

We’ve been learning all about rockets and just how fast they can travel, before creating some rockets of our own. The children also got creative making a space scene using paints and foil, and we’ve been taking a closer look at craters on the moon and exploring these through mark-making.

On Tuesday, we also welcomed parents into the setting for our 'Stay & Play morning'. It was such a lovely opportunity for families to spend time with us, see some of the experiences the children enjoy and get a glimpse into everyday life at our Early Years Centre. 💚

Autumn is arriving at Morpeth Explorers, and our Acorns have been using their senses to discover all the changes happening around them🍂

We’ve been looking closely at the changing colours in our environment and taking inspiration from what we can see to create our own beautiful leaf and acorn paintings. 🎨

Outside, there’s been even more to investigate. We’ve noticed the change in the weather, enjoyed crunching through the fallen leaves and explored the different shapes and textures found amongst the trees around us.

Experiences like these encourage children to slow down, look closely and become curious about the natural world. As we talk about what we can see, hear and feel, we’re also developing new vocabulary, encouraging creativity and beginning to understand how our environment changes with the seasons. 🌿

And sometimes, one of the best things about autumn is simply putting on your wellies and hearing those leaves crunch, crunch, crunch beneath your feet! 🍂

We had a very exciting visitor at Explorers when John arrived with an ambulance for us to investigate! 🚑💙

The children had the opportunity to take a look inside and discover what it’s really like in an ambulance. We explored the stretcher and some of the different equipment paramedics use – and, of course, one of the biggest highlights was getting to sit in the driver’s seat and switch on those all-important blue lights! 🚨

Visits like this give children the chance to learn about the world around them through a real experience, helping them understand more about the important role paramedics play and the vehicles and equipment they use to help people.

There were plenty of questions, lots of excitement and perhaps even a few budding paramedics amongst us by the end of the visit! 💚

A huge thank you to John for taking the time to visit us and giving the children such a memorable experience.

Autumn is beginning to make its mark, and our Morpeth Explorers have been busy noticing all the little changes happening around them 🍂🌿

The children have been searching for fallen leaves and other natural treasures, sorting their finds into different colour groups and taking a closer look at the leaves still growing on the trees. We’ve been comparing the differences between them and even beginning to learn about some of the different tree species we have in our environment🌳

We’ve also turned our attention to one little visitor we’re more likely to spot at this time of year – the hedgehog! 🦔

The children created their own hedgehogs using playdough for the bodies and natural materials for their spines, before experimenting with pressing leaves into the playdough to discover the different patterns and marks they left behind.

Through sorting, comparing, creating and investigating, the children are developing early maths skills, expanding their vocabulary and learning more about the natural world – all from the seasonal changes happening right outside our doors.

Imagine your child coming home excited to tell you which tree a leaf came from, what they discovered in the forest or which little creature they’ve been learning about that day 🍁
