Year 2 excelled today in their creativity, imagination, teamwork and communication.

Autumn naturally provides an abundant source of loose parts like leaves, acorns, conkers and twigs. Sensory-rich natural debris everywhere, which is ideal for exploration and creativity.

We made and created various games and decorations to share our Autumn Celebration Party with the children incorporating tool skills, knot skills, engineering fun games to play and decorating our space with a variety of autumn objects. The conker run was a hit.

We think the children would have had a wonderful time at Abbeyfields with us !!

Nursery had an exciting visit from St John’s Ambulance.

They were shown some of the equipment used to help people who have had a fall or broken a bone. Then they were shown the inside of the ambulance and had a turn at wearing the high-viz vest and sitting in the drivers seat.

We discussed why they need the blue lights and the siren and how paramedics help people in need.

Nursery have been diving deeper into our Talk for Writing story, The Enormous Turnip!🫜

This week, we explored vegetables that grow beneath the ground, looking at beetroot, carrots and potatoes. 🥕🥔

The children used their senses to look, touch and smell each vegetable, learning new vocabulary as they explored the vegetables different textures, colours and scents.

2S were super scientists today. They worked together scientifically observing items from our school grounds closely using a variety of magnifying equipment.

What a great time our new Year 4’s had with us at Forest School.

We focused on natural pigment within our Forest School.

Experimenting with all manner of plants, berries and rock types to extract colour and making tie dye squares. Taking care that we knew what we were picking and making sure they were safe to touch.

Fire is essential to help extract the colour, so again they showed great respect and behaved safely around the fire……and a very happy year 4 actually lit it successfully with their flint and steel.
Fantastic effort and great determination by all the fire team.

Keep posted for the results when they return in a few weeks!
