Year 3 focused on plants and pollination in their Forest School session.

We specifically got to “know our trees”….they took time to try to figure out the species of tree by using our ID books, looking carefully at the leaves and other features to identify it.

We also spent time understanding more about pollination. They really enjoyed using our bee sticky fingers which enabled the children to explore forest school and mimic the way a bee travels from flower to flower collecting nectar and in turn pollinating the plant by transferring the pollen.

What a great time we had connecting with nature and each other.

Year 1 really enjoyed their Forest School session with us. Our focus for the day was learning about the mini-beasts that call Abbeyfields Forest School their home.

Learning and looking at all the distinctive features of the creatures they discovered. Trying to identify what they found using our field ID sheets and books.

We also spent time learning why bees are so important and understanding what pollination is.

We even had a visit from the Bee man!!!

Athletics is the theme of PE in Year 1 this half term. We have been practising our relay skills by, being ready to start, holding the baton correctly and watching carefully ready to receive the baton from our team mate. Great work Year 1!

Year 3 have had a busy and exciting first two weeks back at school. We have been developing our understanding of our new model text, investigating shadows in science and enjoying our forest school sessions. It has been a fantastic start to the last half term in Year 3.

What an amazing afternoon with Friends of Abbeyfields School - Foas and our first colour run! We want to say a huge thank you to FoAS for their incredible support.

Year 4 really enjoyed their first Forest School session this term. The over arching theme for this term is Nature…a wonderful term allowing the children to learn all about the flora and fauna that thrives in our forest school site.

We specifically got to “know our trees”….they took time to try to figure out the species of tree by using our ID books, looking carefully at the leaves and other features to identify it. They then choose a tree individually to research more and created their own ID card.

They also learnt how to estimate the age of a tree by measuring it’s girth and using their maths skills.

Great work year 4.
