Today we had lots of fun scooping our conkers up and rolling them down the drainpipe! Who would’ve know something so simple could be so much fun and they were learning so much!!
Rolling conkers down tubes enhances fine motor control, hand-eye coordination, and gross motor tracking skills.
We also sorted conkers by size, counting them into numbered sections, and comparing how far different conkers travel introducing early concepts of measurement, number, and spatial awareness.
Exploring the natural resources allowed the children to investigate seasonal changes, autumn weather, and the life cycle of horse chestnut trees.
Collaborative setup work sparked rich conversations between our older children, descriptive vocabulary (fast, slow, bumpy, smooth), and cooperative dialogue.
