What do you do when you find a banana in your work bag that is beyond human consumption…. Give it to the garden gremlins obviously. Lenka, Lucky and Lego have been enjoying all the nice weather this past couple of weeks and are working hard as my little lawn mowers. I doubt they’ll be so keen on the impending rain this week has in store.

This is without a doubt my favourite enclosure I have here. There is always something happening and you never know what animals you’ll see when you peer in. I genuinely spend far more of my time than I care to admit looking in here.
P.S Yes the thing the Millipede is on is a real animal vertebrae, but can you guess the species?

It’s out with the hutch! The cold, damp hutch that was letting in the rain when it blew a certain direction is now a thing of the past! And the rabbit pen in the shed done, complete with lighting and a lockable pop hole which currently gives access to a secure run, but once the weather improves and I get the fence fully meshed they will just be free range in the garden and this area will be their indoor bedroom. Currently overcrowded but that’s just because all the babies are still here, that will improve in the next few weeks when they all find new homes.

These are African Pygmy Mice, a species that had been on my wish list for many, many years, earlier this year I managed to find 4 youngsters and those four have well and truly made themselves at home producing lots of babies. African Pygmy Mice are the smallest mouse species in the world and originate in Sub-Saharan Africa, as adults they weigh only around 6-10g. They are a strictly look but don’t touch species due to their tiny delicate size and their unbelievable speed. But for better viewing of this shy and nocturnal species, I keep them on a reverse light cycle, they have red and purple light for day time viewing without disturbing them, and the proper lights come on at night.
