Have a look at this article about reading with children. If you create a love for reading at a young age it can have a lasting impact on your child!
Why not start by reading books to your child every night as part of a bed time routine.
Then get some age appropriate books and take it in turns to read a page each.
Eventually your child will become an independent reader but that doesn’t mean you have to stop listening to them.
Keep stretching their vocabulary and explaining what new words mean.
Also discuss what has happened in each book and if the child enjoyed reading it.

Another way to encourage reading for pleasure is to create a comfortable space for your child to read. This could be with a blanket on the couch or a cushion near a bookshelf in the corner of a room.

Starting in kindergarten, if a student reads 20 minutes a day at home, they will hear 1.8 million words per year. They will have read for 851 hours by 6th grade and on standardized tests, they will likely score better than 90% of their peers.
