We had great fun taking part in our very first sports day last week! 🏅 Another thing to tick off our preschool bucket lists! ✅

The tragedy endured by the residents of Mallowdale Avenue and the family of poor little George has sent ripples of grief throughout our community today.

The children and families of Morecambe are at the very heart of our community and our hearts are heavy this evening as we reflect on the devastating loss of such a precious young soul.

As we all adjust to the 'new normal', our small peer group of a maximum of just 6️⃣ children, and our warm and friendly domestic setting could be just what you and your child need to prepare them for life beyond the early years ✅

Home from Home has seen some exciting changes lately. You may have noticed that we have a new address, but that's not all that's changed. Last September we launched our new preschool sessions, and the moments our little group have shared together so far have been nothing short of magical ✨

We've kept our weekly beach school sessions 🐚 introduced new phonics sessions 🔤 shared a magical night of stargazing together 🌠 and have even ventured into some dance and yoga 🧘‍♂️ as we move the group towards transitioning onto primary school with a slightly more structured routine that still encompasses our child-led Montessori/Reggio style approach; with plenty of interest-inspired topic based learning, in-the-moment planning and opportunity for child-led play crammed into our week 😅

We've had so much fun and can't wait to see what each new week has to bring. Which brings me onto our other news...

Three very special children will sadly be leaving us this September as they embark on their journeys into primary school, which means we have some spaces becoming available. Look out for another post coming soon for further info (& share if you wish!) We look forward to welcoming some new friends very soon! 👫

Our children have been busy learning all about climate change and sustainability over the past couple of weeks! 🌏♻️ Not sure we're ready to move on from this one just yet. Looking closely at where our food comes from, animals and wildlife next week. Really enjoying my preschool group! 🥰🤩

Let's talk about 😱 😱

I know lots of parents across the country are filled with utter dread at the mere mention of the word right now. But it doesn't have to be that way! You have always been your child's first , and that didn't change when they started school. at home doesn't have to be all doom and gloom, and the best 💡 moments usually happen when we didn't plan for them to. Take this (delicious) cheesecake that my son and I made for example. He didn't just make a yummy cheesecake (and a mess), he learnt about weight and measurement, changing states, how to combine ingredients to create new effects, how to read and interpret a recipe and how to work cooperatively to achieve a goal. But most importantly, he had fun. And a slice of cheesecake.

My point is, learning doesn't have to happen behind a desk. There is always a more exciting way to approach a topic, and the more exciting the learning, the more likely it is to be learnt!

Now that's not to say that the desk doesn't have it's place (so don't throw it out just yet), and I know the work lots of schools are setting can make it feel difficult to get away from the computer or steer very far from the plan they have in mind. Plus lots of you are also juggling among other commitments, not to mention those of you homeschooling more than one child, so it's a wonder how some of you fit it all in in the first place! ...But that is exactly the beauty of homeschooling (or ) in this way; you can work it around your existing routines and plan experiences the whole family can engage with. Just take the learning objectives set by your child's school and find ways to inspire that learning in a way that fits around your family.

It makes me sad to see so many of you having such a hard time and homeschool being cast in such a negative light. My message is simply to stop over-complicating it, dial back the pressure and start enjoying this opportunity you have to be a partner in your child's learning once more, whatever that might look like for you. Have fun with it and most importantly have faith in yourself and your child! You got this mamas and papas 💪

💫 Awe & Wonder 💫

It feels like we haven't seen much of it this year. But happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if only one remembers to turn on the light 🧙‍♂️✨

I think this quote sums our year up perfectly. Seeing this one out feeling very blessed to have the wonderful little bubble that we do and the precious little pocket of safety they share here in our home. The memories we've made together this year have been truly magical and we look forward to another year filled with awe and wonder, even if those moments must keep shining through the darkness ✨

As we begin to wrap up our term and the chaos of Christmas descends, I'd like to wish all of our followers the very best this winter and remind you all that it's okay if finding the light in your darkness is difficult right now.

We know how challenging this year has been for everybody, and that's why this December our children will be supporting their community with some exciting charity projects that we can't wait to share with you.
