Great Wood Primary School We are a school that likes to celebrate success – at every level. The life of the school is driven by enthusiasm and a desire to achieve.

We aim to bring learning alive, making it exciting and stimulating. We want to give our children a thirst for learning that continues with them throughout their future school experiences and lives. An essential ingredient for this to happen is teamwork. We view education as a joint venture involving everyone- children, parents, staff, governors and the wider community. Year 5/6 Girls’ Football

Today, our Year 5/6 Girls’ football team attended the LHSSN County Qualifying Competition. In the group stage, we did not concede a single goal and went unbeaten with one win and four draws. Moving into the knockout stage, we narrowly lost in the semi-final and achieved fourth place overall. We played some wonderful football and supported each other brilliantly, both on and off the pitch. Well done, girls! We are very proud of you.

Year 3 - Roman Day

What an exciting day we’ve had in Year 3! Today, we were visited by a Roman soldier who brought our learning about Romans to life!

Year 3 discovered what life was like in the Roman army and enjoyed some fantastic hands-on activities, including grinding flour, writing on wax tablets and becoming brilliant archaeologists as they explored Roman artefacts.

We can’t wait to continue our journey back in time and learn even more about the Romans.

Year 5 were visited by Ellie from Wild Ingleborough and Verity from the Outside it is Beautiful project this week. We worked with them to start producing stories that will begin to weave the journey of animal migration with the route of the Morecambe-
Leeds railway line. This is a very exciting project and we look forward to sharing with everyone how it develops over the coming months and the hard work the children have put into it.

It has been apples galore this week in EYFS and KS1. Everyone loved picking apples in the sunshine on Monday and then Year 1 and Year 2 worked incredibly hard this morning to make loads of apple crumbles. Everyone’s hard work has paid off with tasty apple crumbles and over £60 raised towards the purchasing of more varieties of fruit bushes to make even more tasty crumbles next year. Thank you so much for all the donations from parents when picking up the crumbles, we hope you really enjoying sharing them together.
