🌿✨ Exploring Risky Play ✨🌿

Our toddlers have been having lots of fun exploring risky play — climbing, balancing, jumping, navigating obstacles and testing their own limits in a safe and supported environment. 🧗‍♀️🤸‍♂️

Risky play is so much more than just fun! It gives children opportunities to:

💪 Build confidence and independence
🧠 Develop problem-solving and decision-making skills
⚖️ Improve balance, coordination and physical strength
🌟 Learn to assess and manage risks for themselves
❤️ Build resilience and self-confidence
🤝 Develop social skills through shared challenges and play

By allowing children to experience manageable risks, we help them learn what their bodies can do, make choices, and discover their own capabilities — all while being supported by our caring practitioners. 🥰

Sometimes a little wobble, a little challenge and a lot of curiosity are exactly what children need to grow! 🌱💛

📚Reading Schools ELC📚

We are so excited to share that Little Beehive Nursery Montrose is working towards achieving our Reading Schools ELC Accreditation! 🌟📖

Becoming a Reading Schools ELC is about much more than simply reading stories. It is about creating a culture where books, stories, rhymes and conversations are part of everyday life, helping children to develop a lifelong love of reading and learning. ❤️

Through this journey, we are focusing on making books accessible, exciting and meaningful for every child. We want children to be able to choose books, share stories, talk about characters and ideas, revisit favourite stories and develop their own interests through books.

📖 How does this benefit the children in our care?

✨ Supports children's communication and language development
✨ Builds confidence in sharing thoughts, ideas and opinions
✨ Develops listening, attention and vocabulary
✨ Encourages imagination, creativity and curiosity
✨ Supports early literacy skills and a love of learning
✨ Provides opportunities for children to explore different cultures, experiences and perspectives
✨ Helps children develop a lifelong love of books and reading

At Little Beehive, we believe that every child should have the opportunity to discover the joy of a good story – whether that's snuggling up with a favourite book, sharing a story with a friend, listening to a rhyme, making up their own story or taking a book home to share with their family. 🥰

Together, we are creating a community of confident, curious little readers!📚💛

🌟 Learning Through Floorbooks 🌟

Here at Little Beehive🐝,we make sure children’s thoughts and opinions are heard throughout their play and learning. Our floorbooks are a wonderful way to give children a voice and capture their ideas, interests, questions and experiences. 📚✨

Children are actively involved in our floorbooks by sharing their thoughts, talking about what they have discovered, looking back at photographs, mark making, drawing pictures and helping to record their learning. 🖍️💭

Floorbooks encourage children to reflect, recall and communicate their experiences, while developing important skills such as language, confidence, problem-solving, creativity and critical thinking. They also help children to see that their ideas are valued and that they have an important role in shaping their own learning. ❤️

It’s lovely to look back through our floorbooks and see the children’s learning journey unfold — from their initial ideas and questions to the wonderful discoveries they make along the way! 🌱🔍

🌈Engaging With Colours🔴

This week the preschool children asked to take our little parachute to the park on our walk 🪂. While we were there the children had lots of fun waving their parachute up and down and watching it catch in the wind. As they each picked a side to hold on to they spoke about the different colours they could see 🌈. One by one they said what colour they were holding and told their friends about what they could see around them that was the same colour 🟣.

Engaging with colours help children to enhance their focus and memory as each colour help children to recall information faster 🟦. Colour matching gives children time to use their critical thinking and recognition 🌈.

📸 National Photography Day 📸🐝

Today at little beehive we have had so much fun celebrating National Photography Day by enjoying taking some photos! 🤳💛

The children enjoyed taking turns in front of and behind the camera, taking some photos of ourselves and joining together for fun group pictures. There were lots of smiles, giggles and wonderful memories made! 😄📷

This fun activity also supports lots of important learning. Taking photos📸helps develop communication, confidence, creativity and social skills, while taking turns and working together encourages sharing, cooperation and positive friendships🥰. It also gives children the opportunity to make choices, express themselves and explore technology in a fun and meaningful way. 🌟

🎉Congratulations 🎉

We wanted to say a huge congratulations to our sister nursery in Kirkcaldy for achieving their silver Rights Respecting Schools award 🥈. This is a fantastic achievement for the team 🎉

Well done for all your hard work
Team Montrose 🐝🐝

🌟 We’ve Achieved Silver Rights Accreditation! 🌟

As most of you are aware, this morning we had our Silver Rights Accreditation assessment, which took place from 9:30 am–12 pm via Teams! 💻

The assessment involved Kate, our assessor, speaking with Maddi and me about our journey from Bronze to Silver and the work we have undertaken along the way.

Kate then spoke with 7 of our children from E4/5, all of whom were absolutely amazing! 🌟 Kate asked the children questions about their rights, whether their rights could be taken away, and what their rights mean to them. We were incredibly proud to hear the children confidently share their understanding and experiences.

Kate then spoke with 1 parent — thank you so much, Suzy! 💙 Suzy supported what Maddi and I had shared and also spoke about her experiences. This was further supported by the wonderful comments and feedback that parents sent in over the weekend — thank you to everyone who took the time to contribute!

To finish the assessment, Kate spoke with a further 4 members of our team, who all demonstrated their commitment to embedding the UNCRC (United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child) within our setting.

After all of this, we are incredibly proud to announce that, following a lot of hard work, dedication and commitment from our whole team, we have officially received our Silver Rights Accreditation today! 🥈👏🎉

This achievement is a fantastic recognition of the work we have put in to ensure that children’s rights, inclusion, dignity and respect remain at the heart of everything we do.

A huge thank you to our amazing team for your hard work, passion and commitment. This accreditation is a reflection of the effort that everyone has contributed, and it is something we can all be incredibly proud of. 💙

A special thank you to our children and families for helping us demonstrate what a rights-respecting setting means in practice. Your voices, experiences and contributions have been such an important part of our journey. 🌟

Today is definitely a day to celebrate! 🥳🥈 But it is also the beginning of the next chapter as we continue to learn, improve and ensure that children’s rights are embedded in everything we do.

Well done, everyone — what an incredible achievement! 🎉🥈💙

🦷🌿👩‍🍳 Supporting Healthy Habits Every Day at Little Beehive Nursery! 🐝💛

At Little Beehive Nursery, we believe that children’s health and wellbeing are nurtured through everyday experiences that are fun, meaningful, and hands-on.

🪥 Tooth Brushing
Our tooth-brushing routine helps children develop good oral hygiene habits from an early age. It encourages independence, builds confidence, and teaches the importance of looking after their teeth and overall health. Tooth brushing takes place in every room each day, and did you know that our staff complete Childsmile training? This ensures we are providing children with a safe, consistent, and positive tooth-brushing experience while promoting healthy habits that can last a lifetime. 🪥🦷

🌳 Outdoor Play
Spending time outdoors each day gives children the opportunity to explore, move, and discover the world around them. Fresh air, physical activity, and nature all support healthy bodies, emotional wellbeing, and positive mental health, while helping children build resilience and confidence. Our nursery bus gives children the opportunity to visit locations further in the community 🥰

🧁 Cooking and Baking
Cooking and baking activities are a fantastic way for children to learn about healthy foods, develop important life skills, and try new tastes. Measuring, mixing, and preparing ingredients also support communication, teamwork, creativity, and fine motor development. When cooking and baking in the nursery we ensure that recipes used are adjusted to suit all dietary requirements 🥰

By weaving these experiences into our daily routine, we’re helping children build healthy habits that will benefit them for years to come. 💛🐝

💛 Happy International Friendship Day! 💛🌼

At Little Beehive Nursery, we know that some of life’s sweetest friendships begin in the early years. Every day, children learn to share, care, laugh, and grow together, building friendships that help them develop confidence, kindness, and empathy.

Today we’re celebrating all the wonderful friendships that make our nursery such a happy place to learn and play. 🐝💕

Celebrating International Friendship Day at nursery helps children develop kindness, empathy, and important social skills through play and shared experiences. It encourages positive relationships, teamwork, and a sense of belonging while supporting children’s confidence and emotional wellbeing🥰

Happy International Friendship Day to all our amazing children, families, and staff! 💛
