Abbeydale Vetlink Veterinary Training Abbeydale Vet Nurse Training provides high quality veterinary nurse and nurse assistant education.

Abbeydale Vetlink Veterinary Training classrooms are located at Wonastow Road Industrial Estate (East) in Monmouth on the Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and Welsh borders. Easy access to road links, being only 2 mins from the A40, which has excellent access to the M50, M4 & M5 . Abbeydale delivers high quality training for veterinary nurses where student nurses study in small groups and are taught by qualified nurses with excellent clinical and teaching experience. We also have excellent links with local experts (including veterinary physiotherapists, animal behaviourists and nutritionists) and veterinary surgeons who assist us with our clinical training. Courses: CQ Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing
January, April, and September starts

CQ Level 2 Veterinary Nursing Assistant course. Abbeydale runs revision courses for students, including theory and practical courses and mock practicals for students who could benefit from additional teaching time. For more details and an application form, please email [email protected]

Emma White RVN APVN is returning for our next Preceptorship session, focusing on Wildlife Triage and First Aid.

The session will cover the assessment and initial care of wildlife patients including hedgehogs, bats, birds and other small mammals — ideal for veterinary nurses wanting to build confidence in wildlife nursing.

Join us at Abbeydale on Saturday 7th November for a full day of practical, relevant CPD designed specifically for VCAs.

The day will cover:

• Rabbit nursing – with Craig Brooks DipVN, DipVNZS, APVN (Zoo) RVN
• Triage for exotic patients – with Craig Brooks
• Anatomy & Physiology – why A&P knowledge matters when monitoring patients, with Sam Morgan DipAVN (Medical & Surgical) Cert Ed RVN
• The Professional VCA – standards, conduct and confidence in modern practice, with Kirsty Gwynne PgCert VetEd GradDip VN Cert Ed C-SQP RVN

Autumn is a lovely time of year for getting outdoors with our pets, but the season also brings a few hazards worth keeping in mind.

🍄 Wild mushrooms – many species can be toxic, so avoid letting pets investigate or eat them.

🌰 Conkers and acorns – these can cause stomach upset, blockages and, in some cases, poisoning if swallowed.

🎆 Fireworks – if your pet finds them stressful, now is a good time to start preparing rather than waiting until Bonfire Night.

🦴 Achy joints – cooler weather can make stiffness and arthritis more noticeable, particularly in older pets.

🚶 Darker walks – reflective leads, collars and lights can help keep both pets and owners more visible as the evenings draw in.

A little seasonal awareness can go a long way towards keeping our four-legged friends safe this autumn. 🐾

Emma will be covering the assessment and initial care of a range of wildlife patients, including hedgehogs, bats, birds and other small mammals — a really valuable topic for anyone wanting to build their confidence and knowledge in wildlife nursing.

A big thank you and good luck to our lovely tutor Charlie, who left the Abbeydale team today. 💚

Charlie is moving on to focus on her own business and spend more time with her family, and although we’re really sorry to see her go, we’re also excited for everything that comes next.

She has been a fantastic part of the Abbeydale team, and we’re so grateful for everything she has contributed during her time with us.

The good news is it’s not a complete goodbye — Charlie will be back in January to deliver one of our Preceptorship Talks, so we’ll look forward to welcoming her back then.

Wishing you every success and happiness for the future, Charlie. You’ll be missed! ✨

Today we’re celebrating one of the world’s most extraordinary animals — and highlighting the work still needed to protect them.

Endangered Rhino Conservation supports frontline rhino protection across Africa, helping fund anti-poaching patrols, veterinary intervention, conservation management, monitoring, aerial surveillance, and long-term population recovery.

Their work brings together rangers, vets, conservationists, researchers, and specialist teams who are working every day to give rhinos a safer future.

For those of us working and training in animal care, World Rhino Day is a reminder that veterinary skills can play a role far beyond the clinic — supporting wildlife, conservation, and animal welfare around the world.
