✂️⭐ Snip, peel, stick and create! ⭐✂️

Sometimes the simplest activities provide the most wonderful learning opportunities! 💛

We can all spend time setting up the perfect tuff tray idea and "Invitation to play" but sometimes all they need are the tools to fuel their creativity. The children were engaged in this child led activity for almost an hour!

They began practising their scissor skills and using stickers — and there’s so much more going on than simply cutting and sticking!

✂️ Snipping with scissors helps develop:
• Fine motor strength and finger control
• Hand-eye coordination
• Bilateral coordination — using both hands together
• Concentration and focus
• Control and precision
• Independence and confidence

⭐ Peeling and placing stickers helps develop:
• The pincer grip needed for later writing skills ✏️
• Finger strength and dexterity
• Hand-eye coordination
• Precision and spatial awareness
• Patience and concentration
• Creativity and decision-making

🎨 And, of course, it’s lots of fun!

This activity supports several Areas of Learning and experiences linked to the Curriculum for Wales including:

🧍 Health and Well-being – developing physical skills, coordination, independence and confidence.

🎨 Expressive Arts – making choices, exploring creativity and creating something unique.

📚 Languages, Literacy and Communication – listening to instructions, learning new vocabulary and talking about our creations.

🔬 Science and Technology – exploring how tools and materials work and learning to use them safely.

🌟 "They're just playing with playdough..." 🌟

Or are they? 😊

Today, our children were busy exploring playdough, and while it may look like simple play, so much learning was taking place!

👐 Rolling, squeezing, pinching and moulding helps strengthen the muscles needed for future writing skills.

🎨 Creating models and imaginative creations encourages creativity, self-expression and problem-solving.

🗣️ Talking about their ideas, sharing resources and working alongside friends develops communication and social skills.

🔢 Exploring shapes, sizes, patterns and quantities introduces important mathematical concepts in a meaningful way.

🔬 Investigating how the dough changes when stretched, flattened or shaped sparks curiosity and scientific thinking.

Through play, children are developing skills across all Areas of Learning and Experience within the Curriculum for Wales, while also growing into:
⭐ Ambitious, capable learners ⭐ Enterprising, creative contributors ⭐ Healthy, confident individuals ⭐ Ethical, informed citizens

Play is never "just play"—it is the foundation of learning, discovery and development. ❤️

Jack and the Beanstalk fun 🌱

We had a lovely time exploring the children's classic Jack and the Beanstalk together last week 😊

Creating our own beanstalks with playdough and blocks, strengthening fine motor skills and imagination. Counting the bricks as it grew, developing maths skills!

📖 Retelling the story – building confidence, language and memory skills

🎭 Acting out different parts – encouraging expression and understanding of characters

🌱 Talking about growth and nature – exploring the world around us

Through these experiences, the children have been developing their creativity, communication, physical skills and curiosity—right at the heart of the Curriculum for Wales.

So much learning has taken place through play!!!

It’s been wonderful to see their imaginations come to life and their confidence grow as they shared ideas and worked together 💚

And of course… lots of giggles along the way! 😄
