Happy Easter 🐣🌷

On Thursday, the children were very lucky when the Easter Bunny hopped in to say hello! Each room had a special visit, and every child received a bubble wand 🫧

This week, our practitioners have been celebrating Easter with the children through a variety of fun experiences, including Easter tuff trays, threading bunnies, and lots of creative activities 🎨🐰

We hope you all have a lovely Easter! 💛

👫Monifieth Befrienders 👫

In keeping with our partnership with Monifieth Befrienders, a few members graciously stopped by our nursery yesterday to tell us some stories in honour of World Book Day.

Our Local Community 💕

Yesterday some of our toddler children went for a trip through the local community and into local shops to distribute flowers as a gesture of goodwill. As we went throughout the community distributing flowers, the children were working on their gross motor skills and road safety.

Additionally, this boosted their self-esteem and confidence as they approached people with the support from practitioners and distributed the flowers. Along on the stroll, we also brought a few of the friends from babies, who were delighted in touching the flowers, sniffing them, and smelling their scents as well as waving to people in the community. 💕😀

🥞Shove Tuesday - Pancake Day 🥞

Some of our preschool children participated in creating their own pancakes this morning as part of pancake day.

Pancake day can be used to support wide variation of skills and learning for children.

- Sensory Play & Cooking: Mixing ingredients (milk, flour, eggs) to explore textures, or making salt dough pancakes.

- Fine Motor & Creative Skills: Decorating pancakes with toppings, using playdough to create pancakes ideas.

-Maths & Literacy: Measuring ingredients, counting toppings, sorting toppings by colour or sequencing the recipe steps

What is your favourite toppings? 🥞

🌟 National Storytelling Week 🌟

National Storytelling Week is a lovely chance to share stories, spark imagination, and enjoy language through play. In Early Years, storytelling helps children build listening skills, confidence, creativity, and a love of books — all in a fun and natural way.

The children have been enjoying simple stories, songs, actions, and making up our own tales together.

📖 Simple Storytelling Activities for families to complete at home together ❤️

🚶‍♀️ Exploring the community to support our learning 🚶‍♀️

This week our preschool children went for a walk to Dobbies as our health and wellbeing learning outcome of the week is:

“Can I extend my learning further of types of work people do in the wider world around me.”

This outing enabled us to explore the different types of workers that were in Dobbies and what their jobs entailed.

M.B “Fish man”

C.T-H “Plant lady”

T.D “Someone fixing the shelves”

J.G “A man working on the till”

Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) is a key initiative in Scottish education aimed at better preparing young people for the world of work. 🪥 Toothbrushing 🪥

Our toddler room children had lots of fun taking part in a creative activity where they used shaving foam and toothbrush’s to brush some dinosaurs teeth, which was the childrens current interest. As we did this we had a discussion about brushing our teeth and what colour our toothbrush’s at home is.

Toothbrushing experiences within an early learning and childcare setting, are a vital way of ensuring all children are given opportunities to develop their oral hygiene skills. Daily opportunities for supervised toothbrushing, NHS Childsmile activities for children and training for staff can support all children to develop the knowledge and skills they require for good, lifelong practices. This helps us to think about children’s health and wellbeing and gives children the best start in life.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Happy Burns Day ! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

It's an annual Scottish celebration on January 25th, honoring the life and poetry of Robert Burns, Scotland's national poet, with traditional suppers featuring haggis, neeps, tatties.

The children within the nursery have participated in a variety of experiences such as thistle painting, making their own tartan and blue painting. On Friday Rosemary our nursery cook made haggis, neeps and tatties for our lunch which enabled all children to try a Scottish delicacy 😀

📚 Bringing stories to life 📚

Storytelling in early years is a vital pedagogical tool that enhances language development, cognitive skills, and emotional intelligence by allowing children to explore experiences, emotions, and creativity through narrative. Effective methods include using puppets, role-play, props, and creating dedicated, imaginative storytelling spaces.

The Pre school children were inspired by the book they read “Jack and the bean stalk” and wanted to make their own bean stalk.

By exploring and finding resources within the room the children started to work together to create the stalk, this encouraged lots of discussion and imagination about what could have been used to create the beanstalk and what might be at the end of the beanstalk 🌱

This afternoon our toddlers had a wonderful time on the tennis court, engaging in a multisensory activity that was as educational as it was fun. 😀

The use of droppers to add coloured water to the bubbles was an excellent way to strengthen fine motor skills, which are crucial for future tasks like writing. By carefully squeezing the droppers, the children developed the muscles in their hands and fingers, improving their dexterity and control. This activity also served as a fantastic, hands-on experience in looking at measurement and liquid transfer, as they learned to gauge how much water to release. 💦

The vibrant colours provided a clear and engaging context for practicing colour recognition, while the investigation of the bubbles fostered early scientific thinking and problem-solving. It was a perfect blend of play and developmental learning. 🫧🎨

Community Links - Local Farm

The toddlers had a great time visiting the cows and horses at our nearby farm as part of a small trip this week. The children observed a large red tractor bringing bales of hay to the cows for a delicious meal as we arrived at the farm.

As we watched, we saw how busy the farmer was making sure the cows had enough hay. The farmer graciously welcomed us to come view the tractor and gave us all a chance to sit in the tractor. 🧑‍🌾 🚜

Thank you to the farmer for this great experience 💕🐮
