Robert Huddleston
(1814–1887)
Today is National Poetry Day and at Moneyrea PS and in Moneyreagh village we celebrate the poetry✍🏼 of the Bard of Moneyrea, Robert Huddleston.
Here are a few lines from his poem about winter:
'While caul' December's cranreuch breath,
Blaws bitter frae the hill,
An' locks the burns in icy death,
Beside the silent mill..."
Translation:
• Caul' = Cold
• Cranreuch / Cranrough = Hoar-frost or a heavy morning frost
• Burns = Streams / Brooks
I found this wonderful graphic of the great man and thought it worth sharing.
