Yesterday, we had the Flintshire School's Cross Country Championships at the Alun. The mild autumn weather made for good running conditions with some great performances from some of our students.

A lovely evening last night at our Autumn Music Concert. Some great performances and such professionalism from all the performers. We have a really proud music department this morning.

Some Y8s have been studying novels in English this half term, and have completed homeworks on either 'Lord of The Flies' or 'Animal Farm.' Today, 8GPW enjoyed a games lesson, where they played the games they created, based on the novel. They had great fun!


A reminder to all students that school closes for the half term holiday this Friday, 28th October and school reopens on TUESDAY, 8th November

Here's our 'Dysgwyr Cymraeg y Mis'/'Welsh Leaners of the month' in KS3. Maisie (Y7), Sophie (Y8) and Gracie (Y9) have all worked extremely hard in their Welsh lessons this month. They have all completed their Welsh work to a high standard. Da iawn chi!


We have some parent governors coming to the end of their term. If any Alun parents/guardians interested in becoming a governor, contact Clerk to the Governors (Amanda Flint) on 01352 750755 for further info. Closing date for expressions of interest is Fri, 28 Oct at 12pm.


We are looking for motivated and reliable exam invigilators. We welcome applications from anyone with experience of dealing with people and organisational skills. Flexibility will be needed to work on a casual basis during exam periods. Details available by calling the school.

Congratulations to Daniel in Y9 who has been asked to train with the Welsh Table Tennis Cadet Squad in Cardiff as well as attending training camps in Yorkshire and another in South Wales. A sports star of the future!

We are delighted that local author Alice Vernon was able to take time out of her very busy schedule to sign copies of her new book “Night Terrors” at The Bookshop today. Congratulations Alice on the news that the book is to be Radio 4s Book of the Week in December. Signed copies are available @


Year 11 mock exams will begin one month today, on 21st November. This week, Year 11s have had the importance of these exams clearly outlined to them in an assembly with Mr Newland, where they were also praised for their excellent start to the year. This video on revision strategies was also shared with them; parents may find it useful to watch so that they can support students to prepare at home over the next month.


Our music department are running a Music Evening on the 27th October. A great chance to hear some of our talented young performers.


Congratulations to our Y8 boys football team who won 5-2 against St Joseph's school in the Welsh Cup. On to the next round!


Each month the Maths department are selecting a Mathematician of the Month from each year group. The students have been selected based on their hard work in class, homework answers, always listening well and contributing to class discussions.

A great time was had at the Alun School Open Evening last night. Here are some photos of our staff and students getting ready before the crowds arrived.


National Youth Arts Wales / Celfyddydau Cenedlaethol Ieuenctid Cymru are looking for talented performers to join our music ensembles in 2023.

They would be delighted to hear from talented musicians between 16 and 22.

Closing date for applications is the 19th October.

Today, our Languages Club took part in the "Languages Bake Off". They decorated cupcakes with language related pictures/words. As you can see, they did a fantastic job - da iawn


We are pleased to announce that our charity of the year for 2022/23 is . We look forward to working with them this year to raise awareness in school and to raise money for them.

Congratulations to Orla in Y10 who has been selected to play for Wales U15s against England on 29th Oct. Orla is also goalkeeper for Everton FC and has had a great start to the season.


Last week we were lucky enough to have Matthew Ellis from in school to talk to our Y13 Criminology and Law students on the justice system. Fantastic talk, much appreciated by the students.

Y10 to Y13 provisional summer exam timetables are now available from WJEC All exams are between 15th May and 28th June.


We are looking forward to welcoming our school community to our Open Evening on the 13th October 2022. Running from 6 to 8pm it will give you a chance to explore the site and meet our amazing students and teachers.


Some Y10 and Y11 students attended a talk from the yesterday. Students learned about being in the Royal Signals and had a Q&A session with a front line solider. Diolch to for organising this excellent session.
