Yesterday, we had the Flintshire School's Cross Country Championships at the Alun. The mild autumn weather made for good running conditions with some great performances from some of our students.

Some Y8s have been studying novels in English this half term, and have completed homeworks on either 'Lord of The Flies' or 'Animal Farm.' Today, 8GPW enjoyed a games lesson, where they played the games they created, based on the novel. They had great fun!

A reminder to all students that school closes for the half term holiday this Friday, 28th October and school reopens on TUESDAY, 8th November

Don't forget our Sixth Form Open Evening is just after half term. A chance to meet the team and learn about the range of courses we have to offer.

Here's our 'Dysgwyr Cymraeg y Mis'/'Welsh Leaners of the month' in KS3. Maisie (Y7), Sophie (Y8) and Gracie (Y9) have all worked extremely hard in their Welsh lessons this month. They have all completed their Welsh work to a high standard. Da iawn chi!

We are looking for motivated and reliable exam invigilators. We welcome applications from anyone with experience of dealing with people and organisational skills. Flexibility will be needed to work on a casual basis during exam periods. Details available by calling the school.

Year 11 mock exams will begin one month today, on 21st November. This week, Year 11s have had the importance of these exams clearly outlined to them in an assembly with Mr Newland, where they were also praised for their excellent start to the year. This video on revision strategies was also shared with them; parents may find it useful to watch so that they can support students to prepare at home over the next month.

Congratulations to our Y8 boys football team who won 5-2 against St Joseph's school in the Welsh Cup. On to the next round!

Each month the Maths department are selecting a Mathematician of the Month from each year group. The students have been selected based on their hard work in class, homework answers, always listening well and contributing to class discussions.

National Youth Arts Wales / Celfyddydau Cenedlaethol Ieuenctid Cymru are looking for talented performers to join our music ensembles in 2023.

They would be delighted to hear from talented musicians between 16 and 22.

Closing date for applications is the 19th October.

Congratulations to Orla in Y10 who has been selected to play for Wales U15s against England on 29th Oct. Orla is also goalkeeper for Everton FC and has had a great start to the season.

Last week we were lucky enough to have Matthew Ellis from in school to talk to our Y13 Criminology and Law students on the justice system. Fantastic talk, much appreciated by the students.

Some Y10 and Y11 students attended a talk from the yesterday. Students learned about being in the Royal Signals and had a Q&A session with a front line solider. Diolch to for organising this excellent session.
