Professional Learning for Parents
P6-S6

Both sessions will take place on Friday 25th September 2026 at the Bridge Dumfries. In person event only. The event is for Parents and Carers interested in supporting their young person’s physical and psychological development through adolescence. Participants are welcome to attend one or both sessions.

5.00pm-5.45pm Supporting Physical Development in Adolescence
Supporting Physical Development in Adolescence As children progress through adolescence, their physical development can have a significant impact on how they experience sport and physical activity. This session will introduce parents to the key stages of growth and maturation associated with adolescence and explore how these can affect participation, movement, strength, sleep, nutrition, and injury risk. Participants will develop practical strategies to support their child's healthy development and to foster positive experiences in sport and exercise throughout adolescence and beyond.

5.45-6.30pm Supporting Psychological Wellbeing in Adolescence
This session focuses on the emotional and psychological aspects of adolescence and how parents can support their child through transition to secondary education. Topics will include developmental changes impacting resilience, confidence, independence, anxiety, and emotional wellbeing. Parents will gain practical strategies to help their child navigate challenges, build positive coping skills, and develop the confidence needed to thrive during this significant educational and developmental transition.

Are you a former Moffat Academy Pupil?
This exciting initiative links former pupils to school subject areas, so that our current learners can see the relevance of their classroom learning to future careers and the world of work.
We would welcome any and all forms of partnership to suit the availability of former pupils who would be willing to give a little time to this initiative.
To start things off we simply want to match former pupils to appropriate school departments to get a conversation going. Please access our page using the link below where you can fill in your details or the QR code on the poster: https://forms.office.com/e/v5YCsnJtR4
Thank you to those who have already completed the form.

CHOOSE TO LEAD SUMMER LEADERSHIP ACADEMY 2026 | 22 young people from Annan Academy, Langholm Academy, Lockerbie Academy and Moffat Academy this week have come together for a two-day sports leadership course at Lockerbie Academy. βš½οΈπŸŽΎπŸ‰πŸπŸ€πŸ“

Young people from each school applied to do the course, which includes the Go Lead Sports Leadership Award, which covered themes such as communication, organising, planning and evaluation and the STEPS principle. πŸ‘

The two days also includes Safeguarding and Protecting Children, Disability Games, Forward Planning, Saltire Awards registration, and a number of practical delivery sessions. πŸ‘Œ

These days begin to provide young people with the necessary skills to organise, support and deliver sporting sessions in their school and local community. They will also get opportunities to gain further skills, experience, and qualifications as part of their leadership journey, which can enhance employment opportunities. πŸ™Œ

The Choose to Lead Leadership Academy Programme which is supported by funding from the The Holywood Trust Trust has been running successfully for over thirteen years in Annandale and Eskdale with many young people moving on to positive destinations. πŸ™

Today we were joined by Dumfries and Galloway Councils Executive Director of Education, Skills and Community Wellbeing, Gillian Brydson to observe the young people's learning. πŸŽ“
