Join us for an intimate evening with Stuart Liddell, World Class Piper and Pipe Major of Inverary and District Pip Band in Scotland's wood-fired distillery in Moffat. Enjoy world-class piping, handcrafted cocktails, local drinks and a cosy atmosphere, all while raising funds for the Southwest Scotland Piping & Drumming Academy.

Originally taught from the age of 9 by his grandfather, Pipe Major Ronald McCallum MBE, Stuart has gone on in his early teens to receive tuition from Arthur Gillies and, as a young adult, received the finer points in light music from Jim Henderson, Dunoon and piobaireachd from Hugh MacCallum, who was a cousin of his grandfather – with many other major influential musicians along the way!
One of the most gifted pipers in the world today, Stuart has won three Clasps and four Silver Stars at the Northern Meeting in Inverness, Senior Piobaireachd at the Argyllshire Gathering in Oban five times, both Gold Medals and is a three-time Glenfiddich Champion.
Previously a member of Scottish Power Pipe Band and The Simon Fraser University Pipe Band, he is founder and Pipe Major of the Inveraray & District Pipe Band, Grade 1 winners of the World Pipe Band Championship in 2017, 2019, 2024 & 2025.
Stuart has achieved the distinction of being the only Pipe Major and soloist in history, to date, to hold the Glenfiddich Championship and the World Pipe Band Championship simultaneously. He is honorary piper to the Royal Celtic Society and was awarded the MBE in King Charles III first New Year’s Honours List.

S3 Art & Design Visit to Jupiter Artland
Our S3 Art & Design young people enjoyed a fantastic trip to Jupiter Artland in Edinburgh, where they explored the incredible outdoor sculptures and artworks throughout the park.
Students also took part in a creative workshop inspired by artist Richard Serra, using verbs and actions as a starting point for creating their own sculptures. The activity encouraged our young people to experiment, think creatively and develop their critical-thinking skills.
We were also very lucky with the weather, making it the perfect day to explore, create and experience art outside the classroom.
A brilliant and inspiring day for our young artists!

Glasgow Art
Senior Art & Design pupils enjoyed a fantastic day in Glasgow, exploring the city’s incredible street art on a guided tour. We discovered work by a range of artists and learned about Glasgow’s street art scene, past and present.
We finished the day with pizza at Pizza Punks and some shopping in the city centre!

Moffat pupils helped spark a new Dumfries and Galloway Carnival costume after speaking with the Carnival team at a Bang Goes DG event delivered with Developing the Young Workforce (DYW).

The young people shared their enthusiasm for digital dairy farming and explained why they see it as part of Dumfries and Galloway’s future. Their insight has now inspired a Carnival costume celebrating the region’s dairy sector, its innovation and the opportunities emerging for the next generation.

With this year’s theme of Legends, the project shows how young people’s ideas and interests are helping to shape Carnival - and celebrates the farmers and innovators they see as legends in their own right.

Young people from 58 schools and nurseries across Dumfries & Galloway are already getting ready totake part in January's Carnival - making it the festival's biggest youth participation programme to date.

Artists from across Dumfries & Galloway are travelling far and wide to get young people ready for January’s Carnival. With 58 secondary schools, primary schools and nurseries already involved - and more joining - children from across the region will come together to light up Dumfries town centre for the
Carnival Parade on Saturday 30 January, expected to attract more than 18,000 people.

Alongside the schools programme, young people are taking part in 12-week after-school Academies in Costume Design and Digital Arts. Twenty-three pupils from Dumfriesshire, Stewartry and Annandale are already signed up, creating work that will premiere as part of what is expected to be one of Scotland’s
biggest street parades.

This year’s theme is Legends of Dumfries & Galloway, with young people bringing local stories, heroes and legends to life - from Spitfire Spies commemorating RAF Dumfries to the Protectors of Sweetheart Abbey in New Abbey.

Dumfries & Galloway Carnival is the new name for Big Burns Supper. The completely free festival runs from 29-31 January 2027 and includes the return of Northern Lights Dumfries, the Winter Village and Burns Light at the Burns Mausoleum, alongside the world premiere of the new 360° Rave Experience Dumfries & Galloway Carnival’s young people’s programme is made possible with the generous support of The Holywood Trust.

On Tuesday some of our young people competed in the Scottish Schools Mountain Bike Competion at Comrie Croft. There were over 450 riders from across Scotland.
A huge congratulations to all 8 of our riders for taking part, some of whom rode for the very first time in the event and an XC race. It was a huge success! Particular mention to Euan Little for placing 29th out of 143 boys in his category and Harry Brown for placing in the top third out of 66 in the seniors.
Both exceptionally strong fields!
Special mention to Olivia Gregory who also completed the whole gruelling 45 minute long junior race among a strong pack of female riders, and was smiling right to the end!. Well done everyone!

Primary have already viewed the Book Fair and are able to buy books on Tuesday with their class or at Parent Evenings next week. Secondary are now able to visit the book fair tomorrow to have a look and then buy books Monday or Tuesday.
