Family Bushcraft and Survival weekend!

Well that was the weekend that was!!!

Thanks to the AMAZING group of families who joined us for an activity packed weekend of fun and laughter 😂 our guests certainly rolled up thier sleeves and embraced this immersive outdoor adventure, cooking outdoors, sleeping under the stars and learning new skills such as:

Survival skills, basic and advanced fire starting, fire lays, and for the creative folk we held master classes on “braiding”, which included everyone making their own bracelets and finished off with “wood carving” to create some quirky wooden spoons 🤪 it was a fantastic weekend thoroughly enjoyed by all involved.

Special thanks to all of our families who attended and to our very own Kelvin and Leon who led the weekend sessions.

Don’t forget folks!! This is an annual event open to all ages and abilities ❤️

So we made it to August 🎉 and our family bushcraft and survival weekend is just around the corner 😊

Shout out to the amazing students of Bodmin College who joined us this week for a fantastic two and a half days of bushcraft and survival skills training at camp Footsteps!

We had the pleasure of hosting 39 students and support staff in our 10 acre woodland site in the heart of Cornwall and a fab time was had by all.

Loving our sessions at The Carlyon Bay Hotel ❤️

In charge of todays cook out kitchen we’re Daz and Dave making our tried and tested cheese pasties! with 4 adults and 4 children from Barnsley and London fully engaged on creating there savory treats in out campsite kitchen.

Dave taught them how to crimp and shared with them the history of the Cornish pasty, obviously mentioning the crust and knockers.

“Crust & Knockers?”, I hear you ask….

The Crust as a Handle: Pasties were made with a thick, heavily crimped edge on one side. Miners held the pasty by this thick pastry handle with dirty, arsenic-covered hands, avoiding poisoning by discarding the crust when finished.

Miners' Superstition: Miners traditionally left a small corner of their pasty behind for the "knockers" mischievous mythical spirits believed to live in the mines, designed to keep them out of trouble.

Tasty treats and a fun and informative session enjoyed by all 👍

First time we have seen one in our 10 acre campsite in the heart of Cornwall and with all “firsts” we just had to share!

Well what a morning that was ❤️ it’s not very often I get the chance to join the team at an event but today’s outdoor baking “survival style”, was not one I wanted to miss (there was food involved🥟) and so in partnership with our friends at The Carlyon Bay Hotel Spanner & Dave set up camp in the stunning hotel grounds to teach a very willing and hands on audience how to make pasties 🤗

Dave our master crimper shared his skills and knowledge and Spanner gave us some great survival tips for staying safe in the great outdoors!

Thanks all for a great experience, and yes I ate my pasty before I reached the car park 😂

If you have never tried Axe Throwing before, you’re in for a treat! Fresh air, beautiful surroundings and the chance to throw axes! it’s a “must do” activity.

Our fully trained instructors will be there to guide you and encourage a little friendly competitiveness 🤔
