eral Stores garden George Cottage is a traditional stone building, with flag stone floors and an open fire, that sleeps 4 with self-catering and B&B options. The inter-connected properties offer easy access to a range of fantastic outdoor attractions within the Forest of Dean area. A little further afield is Record Street Ruthin, a bohemian 3 storey town house available as a self catering rental for families.

BEAST OF A BBQ

Inspired by a party w and the wonderful Sharon of we have just invested in this beast. We’ll photograph it next to our signature when it is in situ after delivery. Any bookings made before the end of August 2026, will have full use of this gratis, including utensils, fuel, fire starting chimney and chopping board during their stay in 2027.

And hopefully the inspiration can be returned by a visit in December.

Mill End is a quirky holiday let, with the option of booking in groups of up to 25, 29, 34 or 40, depending on which parts of the house are hired.

Artisan food & drink shops are aplenty - and .fayre in Ross on Wye or and in the other direction.

And if this wasn’t enough, have now opened a wonderful stable bar with in the courtyard, next to their vineyard in the grounds of Flaxley Abbey.

ARE YOU SITTING COMFORTABLY? Then let us begin.

The sitting room at Mill End is open to the second kitchen, set up predominately for baking and cocktails. There is a cocktail bar with high stools, optics and shakers for any mixologists in your party and a 3 door drinks chiller.

Quirky pieces are from (spotty cushions and mirrors) with white faux flowers from the wonderful . Little rustic metal birds are from which is an absolute MYST for anyone visiting the area. If you arrive early on Friday or have time on Sunday it is just outside . 100% worth a detour for!

Over the sink hang banners from which was filmed here some years ago.

And the strangest thing? The winner was the young man, then a small boy, who lived next door to us in Bristol for 20 odd years!

You never quite know what will be celebrated at our wonderful Mill End!

CHRISTMAS. NEWYEARS EVE. BIG BIRTHDAYS at Mill End. Made even better with table styling or themed dining. Murder mystery or Mad Hatter’s Tea Party.

Having spent a week in Southern Spain and some time back in Bristol, the lush greenness of the in , surrounded by all the woodland is stunning. And so cool compared to Europe and urban life.

BEDROOMS AT MILL END.

Which would you choose? Each themed and named. Crazy kimonos. Vintage wallpaper. Found objects. Nothing too precious. But they create a relaxed, arty, quirky vibe.

Fabulous, well equipped kitchens and sauna & spa facilities alongside a pool table and cocktail bar offer something for everyone. With kids games, toys, books board games too.

LUCKY

View from our breakfast room/my office. We have two gooseberry bushes which never fully fruit and a HUGE fig tree to the left. The birds LOVE the overgrown, shady corner of the garden. Our tame robin hops around a foot away from your feet. And there are two nest in the laurel - different pitches of cheeping!

Awake at 4.30 this morning so I thought I’d water the garden while temperatures are low.

Mill End is a large weekend. Holiday house with a totally private sunken courtyard with a hot tub and a cold water immersion barrel plus oak sleeper steps leading up to our small lawn with a play area and sunken trampoline. Small, wild but perfectly formed.

We still have August Bank Holiday weekend free and Monday/Friday slots for mid-week breaks. Plenty for kids to do and high speed wifi if parents need to take it in turns working. Pizza oven, BBQ and fresh pasta making kit too - to combine family fun and meal prep…

FLAXLEY ABBEY & KINGSTHORNE WINES

I could try and pretend this is a new wing of Mill End. Sadly for us it’s not - it’s Flaxley Abbey, dating back to the 1300’s - a century before us. We’re 1400’s.

has taken over much of the hillside above Flaxley for its vineyard and the views down across the River Severn are stunning.

They have also taken over outbuildings and gained planning permission for a winery, restaurant and deli. It is a slow but wonderful process, alongside cleaning the small river fed by , planting fields of wild flowers, installing bird and bat boxes through their woodland and welcoming otters too.

The vineyard tour by Simon the viticulturalist was fascinating, if a little hot in 36 degree heat.

When you bring family and friends to Mill End in the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, to celebrate a birthday, a hen or stag party or just because… you can use our incredibly well appointed kitchen, so well equipped we’ve had professional chefs compliment us.

Or you can use our second kitchen which is set up predominantly for baking and cocktails, splitting your group into two for a come dine with me vibe - half creates mains, the other half the desserts.

Or have come in to cook for you. No stress while you dress for the evening. And someone else lays the table and fills the 3 dishwashers for you. Yes! 3 dishwashers!

Welcome! The sun is shining. We have just hosted two stag weekend groups who were good as gold.

We have some wonderful hen weekends who are getting creative with their themes and choices of activity and entertainment.

And we have an International Cosmetics brand joining us soon for their annual get together - with delegates from all over the world. Who would have thought they’d choose the Forest of Dean??? But they did! To be fair we can seat 40 for meetings, socialising and dining.

Mill End hosts large but seldom. Our small cottage next door hosts little and often. The big house has gaps in May and August which we can negotiate on pricewise. DM me or email [email protected]
