Oh I do like to be by the sea side! 🌊
This morning, the children showed an interest in talking about visiting the beach. To build on their interests, we set up an open-ended activity using loose parts, including a variety of shells, buttons and sea animals. The children used their imagination and creativity to design and create their own collages. 🐚 🪸
As they explored the different materials, the children were encouraged to develop new language to describe what they could see and feel. Words such as spiky, smooth, rough and patterns were introduced and used as the children described the different textures and shapes of the shells and buttons. 🦀🦞🐠🐙
The activity also encouraged the children to share their own experiences and memories of visiting the seaside. One child shared, “I like sitting in the sea with the water washing over me.” Another child said, “I like running in the water with no shoes on and making sandcastles.” 🏰 🪣
