🥐 Business Breakfast Event – Careers Success 🥐

Today we were delighted to host a Business Breakfast for our Year 10 and Year 12 students who successfully secured their work experience placements by the deadline – a fantastic achievement!

Students were treated to a free breakfast sandwich, kindly funded by the Careers Team, and were privileged to hear from guest speakers from local company Thornhill Insurance. We were especially proud to welcome Dylan, an ex‑MFG student, who shared his journey from school to employment and offered a valuable student perspective.

The session gave students invaluable insight into work experience from an employer’s point of view, as well as honest, practical advice from someone who has been in their shoes. It was a great opportunity to prepare them for making the most of their upcoming placements and to understand what employers really value.

Well done to all students involved – we are incredibly proud of your commitment and professionalism. 👏

♟️ A Big Milestone for MFG Chess Club!

This week, our students from MFG and Mirfield College took part in their first ever Chess Club match against another school. We were thrilled to welcome the brilliant team from Westborough, who proved to be fantastic opponents.

Our players showed real focus, determination, and sportsmanship throughout. They may not have taken the win this time, but their progress, teamwork, and tenacity make us incredibly proud. With more practice, they’re well on their way to future victories.

Well done, MFG — this is just the beginning of an exciting journey!

What an inspiring day at MFG yesterday! 🌟
Several members of our staff team took part in a solidarity fast, joining millions around the world who observe Ramadan. It was a powerful way to deepen our understanding, build empathy, and celebrate the incredible diversity that makes our school community so special.

A huge shout‑out to our amazing MFG parent who surprised us with delicious food and drinks for staff to break their fast. Your kindness brought big smiles and meant so much to everyone. 💛

📣 Last week our Year 12 and Year 13 students had a fantastic assembly delivered by Faye from Manchester Metropolitan University!
Faye spoke to students about Degree Apprenticeships — an excellent route for young people who want to earn a salary, gain real workplace experience, and graduate with a full degree without the traditional university pathway.
Students learned about:
🎓 How degree apprenticeships work
💼 The types of careers and industries offering them
📈 Entry requirements and how to apply
🌟 The benefits of combining paid work with university study
Thank you to Faye and Manchester Met for such an informative and engaging session. Our students left feeling inspired and much more confident about the opportunities available to them after sixth form.
