Online coaching works best when the video tells the truth. 🎥⛳
A good swing video gives the coach a clear picture of what is really happening—without misleading camera angles or guesswork.
For the best results:
Place the camera on a tripod at roughly waist height.
For a down-the-line view, position it around two to three driver lengths behind the player, aligned correctly with the hands and target line.
For a face-on view, position it around two driver lengths away, directly opposite the player.
Ideally, send:
• One driver swing from down the line
• One driver swing face-on
• One iron swing from down the line
• One iron swing face-on
That gives the coach a much clearer understanding of how the club and body are moving.
Once uploaded to a coaching platform such as CoachNow, the swing can be viewed in slow motion, analysed and compared with previous lessons. Relevant feedback, explanations and practice drills can then be sent directly back to the player—ready for the next practice session.
This is where online coaching adds real value.
It keeps the player motivated, prevents unnecessary overthinking and makes sure each practice session has a clear purpose. Rather than waiting several weeks for the next in-person lesson, the player can receive guidance when it is most useful.
Online coaching does not have to replace face-to-face coaching.
Used properly, the two work brilliantly together.
This is a great example from one of my players, Howard. Thank you for allowing me to share it. Hopefully it helps other golfers understand how simple and effective online coaching can be when the videos are recorded
properly.
