πŸ¦‹ Moth of the Week: The Sweet Drinker Moth πŸ¦‹

Meet the fascinating Sweet Drinker Moth (Euthrix potatoria), a common and colourful species found across the UK. Its unusual name comes from the caterpillar's habit of drinking dew drops from grass blades, a behaviour that caught the attention of early naturalists.

The adults are beautifully marked with rich golden-brown wings and a distinctive white streak running across each forewing. You can spot them flying from June to August in grasslands, marshes, gardens and along roadside verges.

Keep an eye out for their fluffy caterpillars feeding on a variety of grasses before they transform into these stunning moths!

πŸ’š Moth of the Week: Elephant Hawk-moth πŸ’š

We've been delighted to welcome three groups from Hordle Primary School recently! One of our favourite activities is setting up the moth trap in the evening and then eagerly checking it the next morning to see who has paid us a visit.

Who knew there were so many different species of moth? Every morning brings a new surprise, and this week we're shining the spotlight on the beautiful Elephant Hawk-moth. With its striking pink and olive-green colours, it's easy to see why it's a favourite amongst our visitors and staff alike!

Have you ever spotted an Elephant Hawk-moth in your garden? πŸ¦‹βœ¨

🌿 Outdoor education matters more than ever 🌿

The recent Ten Minute Rule Bill on Outdoor Education, introduced in Parliament, highlights the growing recognition of the vital role that outdoor learning plays in children's wellbeing, confidence and development. The Bill proposes more time outdoors during the school day, regular outdoor learning opportunities, and access to outdoor education experiences for every child.

This is exactly why our outdoor centres are such special places. They give children the opportunity to explore, challenge themselves, build resilience, make lasting friendships and develop a deeper connection with the natural world. Every visit creates memories, inspires learning beyond the classroom and helps young people thrive.

We see first-hand the difference that time outdoors makes – boosting confidence, supporting wellbeing and encouraging children to discover what they are truly capable of.

Every child deserves the chance to learn, grow and flourish in the great outdoors. πŸŒ³πŸƒ

Coverage of the ten minute rule bill on outdoor education which would require that all children in primary and secondary education spend a minimum of thirty minutes a day outdoors during school hours.
