🤝💙 Community is at the heart of everything we do at Aurora Foxes.

This academic year marks 30 years of Aurora Foxes being part of the Minehead community, and we're proud of the incredible relationships we've built with local businesses along the way.

One of those valued partnerships is with Cobblestones Café in Dunster, who have supported our students with work experience opportunities for many years.

This term, Isaac, Alfie and Zoe have made a fantastic start to their placements, taking customer orders, serving tables and putting their barista skills into practice with confidence and professionalism.

Working alongside new colleagues and customers gives students invaluable real-world experience, helping them develop the independence, communication and employability skills they need for the future.

These opportunities are about so much more than work experience. They allow our students to become active members of their local community, building relationships, growing in confidence and learning the skills that help them become truly work ready and life ready.

We're incredibly grateful to the team at Cobblestones Café, and especially Café Manager Fae, for the continued support and encouragement of our students.

At our recent open day, College Principal, Mark, talked about what makes Aurora Foxes different as a Hospitality and catering college for Young Adults with learning disabilities.

Yes, it is the fact that we have a fully functioning hotel as an integral part of the experience.

Yes, it is the level of professional support such as on-site Speech and Language therapists, Occupational therapists and Thrive practitioners.

Yes, it is the creativity and expertise of our extensive teaching staff.

But the real difference?

How deeply connected to the local community Aurora Foxes is.

Our students aren't kept separate from community life. They are valued members of it.

The real learning for independent living, future employment and adult life happens through those everyday interactions, experiences and relationships.
Because becoming work ready and life ready isn't something you can teach solely in a classroom. It happens when you're part of a community.

Last Friday, we hosted another busy and successful open day. 👏

Parents and their young people came from all over the country to experience Aurora Foxes firsthand.

It’s always a proud moment as a college when we witness prospective students come alive with ambition as they see for themselves what is possible.

Parents sparkle with the same thoughts, as they tour the houses and meet current students and our dedicated staff.

What is clear from the feedback is that an open day brings possibility to life in a very real way.

Parents often ask us ‘What is Personal Development Health and Welfare at Aurora Foxes’? 🧐

Well, Personal Development, Health & Welfare (PDHW) is a fun time for students to plan trips and activities, join clubs, and build independence.

Students can socialise during this time, cook meals in the houses, do laundry, complete house tasks, and practise personal care routines.

They can also take part in many different activities like football, running, drama, walking club, art, gym, disco, karaoke, cinema, dance club, Makaton choir and lots more.

So there you have it PDHW a fun but important part of life at Aurora Foxes. 🦊💙

This term, our tutorial programme is exploring relationships through age-appropriate themes that reflect the different stages of our students’ development.

This group of students used the Spider Web Feelings Friends tutorial to explore the sometimes complex and interwoven dynamics of friendship. 👏

As you can see, they had a lot of fun with their peers as they deepened their understanding!

⚽Aurora Foxes students’ make their debut for Minehead AFC Ability Team.⚽

The team travelled to compete in the first day of fixtures for the 2026-2027 season.

A daunting task, as the West Somerset Disability league boasts a mixture of ages and abilities, plus teams who have been playing together as established teams for more than a decade.

Whilst there were some nerves at the start, as soon as the first whistle was blown, the jitters faded and our students excelled.

In the first three matches, only one goal was conceded which is a tremendous achievement, thanks in no small part to goalie Aaron.

A special mention goes out to Minehead AFC’s Player of the Day, Donna, who scored an incredible goal after she picked up the ball in her own half, ran forward past two players, cut in and slotted into the bottom corner.

As you can imagine the celebrations were crazy.🥳🤩

A huge congratulations to our students, to and to all the Aurora Foxes staff who make moments like this possible. 💙🦊

It’s been a bumper Birthday Bonanza at Aurora Foxes! 🥳🎂🎁🎉

Last weekend, the birthday celebrations were in full force across not one, but FOUR different student houses. 😱

Students and staff celebrated in style and a great time was had by all.

Having a birthday, especially a milestone birthday, away from home can be a significant change for both parents and students, but we love to reassure that Aurora Foxes takes the celebration responsibility seriously.

Breaking news 🥳

We are delighted to share that Aurora Foxes has been selected as a finalist in this year’s Innovative Employer Award category. 👏

This award recognises tourism and hospitality businesses that have a commitment to and are innovative in bringing new recruits into the industry and supporting their development.

It is a huge honour to be recognised by Bristol, Bath, Somerset and Glos Tourism Awards , for our work and we will be keeping everything crossed that we walk away with an award on the night.

Here at Aurora Foxes, one of our core values as a college is ‘caring’. 😍

When new student Rusalka, joined recently, her house mates went out of their way to embody the value of ‘caring’ as they helped her settle in.

Students took her on a walking tour of Minehead and the surrounding area, as well as making beautiful Autumn inspired craft decorations for the house and even cooking a Greek themed food night.

We understand that leaving home can be daunting for parents and students alike, but at Aurora Foxes it becomes one of the most cherished parts of the educational experience.
