At SDA, we’re not just teaching dance — we’re building confidence, friendships and a community where everyone belongs.

A smile, a kind word or simply showing up can make a bigger difference than we realise. Let’s keep supporting each other, celebrating every achievement and reminding our dancers how amazing they are! 🫶

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Ellie has received an IDTA nomination for The International Theatre Dance Awards!! ⭐️⭐️

Ellie received this incredible nomination after achieving an outstanding mark in her Grade 5 Ballet exam in January — a fantastic achievement and a true reflection of her hard work and dedication!

Ellie works tirelessly in all of her classes. She also helps our junior dancers, whilst travelling up and down the country to further her training.

We are SO proud of you, Ellie! We can’t wait to see you take on the finals! ✨

WHAT A WEEKEND FOR OUR DANCERS! ✨
What an amazing weekend for our SDA students — and what a fantastic start to the year! 💛🖤
First up, we had lots of our students joining Perform Like a Pro associates! Huge congratulations to Alana, Charlotte and Evie, and well done to Ellie, who is entering her second year. We can’t wait to watch you grow and see all the progress you make! 🌟
Then we had Billy, who attended his very first associate class with Phoenix Boys in Birmingham and had a fantastic time! 🧡
He looks forward to filming a BBC documentary with them in October half term!! 🤫
And finally, a huge congratulations to Hali and Isla, who successfully auditioned for TAAP Associates and had their very first class in London yesterday! Superstars!
We really have had such an incredible start to the year. The opportunities just keep coming, and our students (and drivers) are working SO hard to make the most of every single one.
We are incredibly proud of every one of you. Keep working hard, keep believing in yourselves and keep enjoying the journey — your futures really are looking so bright!

AND the great news just keeps coming!! 🎉💛
First up, our fabulous Ellie has successfully auditioned for the Team England Jazz Team! 🇬🇧✨ She’ll now train monthly with the Development Team, representing and performing for Team England at events across the country. What an amazing achievement, Ellie! 👏🏼💫

Then we have our lovely Ruby, who has had her first day at Jelli Studios in Liverpool to continue her dance and Musical Theatre training! 🎭💃🏼
Best of luck, Ruby — you are going to be AMAZING! We’re so proud of you… but please come home soon so we can hear ALL about it! 😂💛

We are so proud of our student Evie, who has started her associate program BLOOM BUDS BY JOSIE LEE🩰✨

Evie will now travel to London once a month to train with other talented young dancers, developing her technique, performance skills and artistry. 💕

Such an amazing opportunity and a fantastic achievement! We know how much hard work and passion Evie puts into her dancing, and we couldn’t be prouder! 💗

Yes, I let my dancer miss school for dance.

And no, that doesn’t mean I don’t value her education.

Her schoolwork still gets done.

Sometimes it’s done at the kitchen table.

Sometimes it’s done in a hotel room, backstage, in the car, or somewhere between rehearsal and competition.

Because we’ve learned something along the way:

Education and development aren’t limited to a classroom.

Dance is helping raise my child, too.

It’s teaching her discipline when she’s tired.

Confidence when she’s nervous.

Grace when she doesn’t get the part she wanted.

Responsibility when an entire group is counting on her.

Time management when there’s homework AND rehearsal.

And courage when it’s time to walk onto a stage in front of hundreds of people.

But there’s something else dance gives her that I can’t put on a report card.

It makes her happy.

She’s found people who understand her passion.

She’s built friendships with kids she never would have met otherwise.

She’s been exposed to places, experiences and opportunities that wouldn’t exist without dance.

And someday, those years of training could open even bigger doors.

College programs.

Scholarships.

Performances.

Teams.

Careers.

Travel.

Connections.

Maybe she’ll pursue dance for the rest of her life.

Maybe she won’t.

Either way, the confidence, discipline, friendships and memories are coming with her.

So when my child occasionally misses a day of school for something she’s spent countless hours working toward, I don’t see a child “blowing off school.”

I see a child whose education is coming along for the ride while another incredibly important part of her development gets its moment too.

School is preparing her for a future.

Dance is helping her discover who she wants to be when she gets there. ❤️
