📚 What happens when we create space for reading to become social?

In our latest Featured Example of Practice, student teachers Louis Tegg and Angeli Fernando share how they created a university reading space, book club and ‘Booknic’ at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Their aim? To encourage fellow student teachers to explore diverse literature and experience first-hand the value of belonging to a social community of readers.

🔎 Research Spotlight: Reading and Writing Workshops

What impact can a Writing and Reading Workshop approach have on young people’s reading?
This study followed lower secondary students over a year, exploring the relationship between reading motivation, reading amount and comprehension.

Students taking part in the workshop approach showed increased reading and better comprehension of narrative texts compared with those following traditional teaching – with the amount they read playing an important role in the relationship between the approach and comprehension.
