Having been with another instructor, Matthew came over to Landmark Pass. Fast forward, he passed with 4 minors this morning at Bedford.

Driving in sliders, flip-flops or backless shoes: the Highway Code states in Rule 97 that drivers should ensure that “clothing and footwear do not prevent you using the controls in the correct manner”. However, popular summer footwear such as flip-flops, sliders and backless shoes can fall off a driver’s foot and get trapped under the pedals, particularly if feet are hot or wet. This creates a dangerous driving environment and could mean drivers are unable to use their brakes efficiently, so putting themselves, any passengers and, of course, other people at risk. If a driver is in an accident and the police see that they are wearing footwear of this type, or even no shoes at all, they may be found to be "driving without due care and attention". This offence carries a £100 on-the-spot fine and three penalty points on a driving licence, and, if it goes to court, the maximum penalty could rise to a £5,000 fine, nine penalty points and potentially a driving ban.

Yesterday, I met Clifford for the very first time, following a contact from a company he had booked his driving test through. Apparently, he booked 3 hours of lessons with me, in preparation for his test today.

Of course, I had to observe him for the first hour. Behold, my booked was filled with all sorts of faults. I used the remaining 2 hours to work with him and sort out all the issues I had observed.

Picking him up this morning, anxiety was all over him. I had to re-iterate all the faults he had previously made and how to avoid such again.

Thankfully he went for it and passed with 3 minor faults. Tears rolled down from his eyes after being told that he passed.
