🚗 DRIVING TIP: YOUR MIRRORS ARE YOUR EXTRA EYES 👀

Good driving isn’t only about looking at what’s happening in front of you. You also need to know what’s happening behind and around your vehicle.

That’s why effective use of mirrors is such an important driving skill.

🪞 When should you check your mirrors?

✅ Before changing speed — especially before slowing down
✅ Before changing direction
✅ Before signalling
✅ Before changing lanes
✅ Before moving off
✅ When approaching a hazard
✅ Regularly while driving to stay aware of surrounding traffic

Remember the MSM routine:

Mirrors → Signal → Manoeuvre

But don’t just move your eyes towards the mirror. Ask yourself: What did I actually see, and does it affect what I’m about to do?

For example, before slowing down, checking your mirrors can tell you whether another vehicle is following closely. That information can help you plan your actions safely and smoothly.

💡 Learner tip: Build mirror checks into your normal driving routine. With practice, they become natural rather than something you have to keep reminding yourself to do.

Nervous before your driving lesson? You can tell me. You don’t have to pretend you feel confident. 💙

Before we set off, we can agree on one thing to practise. It might be steering, a junction or a roundabout that has been worrying you. We can start somewhere quieter and build up from there.

While you’re driving, focus on the next safe decision rather than the whole journey. If you feel unsure, say so. We can find a safe place to stop, talk it through and try again.

At the end of the lesson, notice one thing that felt a little easier than last time. Small steps count. 🚗

🚗 STRUGGLING WITH STEERING?

Smooth steering starts with where you look. Keep your eyes on the road ahead, use a relaxed grip, and turn the wheel steadily. As you come out of the turn, guide it back under control.

You don’t have to get it perfect straight away. With practice and patient instruction, steering can start to feel much more natural.
