🤟 Signalong Update 🤟

Apologies for the recent lack of updates on our Signalong learning across the school. We’re excited to share the last two weeks’ signs with you!

Last week, the children learnt the signs for ‘mum/mummy’ and ‘dad/daddy’. Mum is shown by placing three fingers on the palm, representing the letter ‘M’, while dad is shown using two fingers crossed over two, similar to a hashtag shape.

This week, the focus has been on ‘eat’ and ‘drink’. Eat is shown by pinching the air and bringing it to the corner of your mouth, while drink is demonstrated by miming holding a cup and taking a sip.

Well done to all of our children for their enthusiasm in learning new ways to communicate, keep practising at home! 👏✨

⚽👏 A Fantastic Start for Our Year 3/4 Girls Development Team! 👏⚽

Last Thursday, our Year 3/4 Girls Development Team played their first round of friendly matches against neighbouring schools, and they did amazingly well!

The girls brought fantastic energy, enthusiasm, and plenty of smiles to every game. It was wonderful to see them growing in confidence, supporting one another, and enjoying the experience together.

A special mention goes to Olivia, who scored a brilliant goal on the evening! 🌟

We are so proud of all of the girls and can’t wait to see them back in action again this week. Well done, girls! 💪⚽

⚽👏 Year 5/6 Girls St Bernadette’s Cup action! 👏⚽

A huge well done to our Year 5/6 girls football team who took part in the St Bernadette’s Cup on Tuesday evening. The girls represented the school brilliantly and put in some fantastic performances all over the pitch.

Olivia was outstanding in defence, while Holly, Grace, Isabela, and Adisha worked tirelessly in a variety of positions, always willing to put the team first. Sophia had a brilliant tournament and certainly kept spirits high with her enthusiastic sound effects every time she kicked the ball! 😄

At the other end of the pitch, Janielle finished the tournament with an impressive four goals, while Ema was deservedly named our Player of the Tournament for her tireless running, determination, and work rate throughout.

A fantastic team effort from all of the girls. We are incredibly proud of them and the way they represented St Mary’s Wavendon! 🌟💪⚽

Sports betting has become increasingly visible online, appearing across apps, websites, social media, sports coverage and gaming spaces.

Even when young people are not legally old enough to gamble, they may still encounter betting messages through adverts, influencers, tipsters, friends or adult accounts.

Our latest guide highlights key risks, including:
• Easy online access
• Gambling becoming normalised around sport
• Peer and influencer pressure
• Free bet offers
• Impulsive spending and chasing losses

It also offers practical advice for parents, carers and educators on starting calm conversations, setting safer digital boundaries, spotting warning signs and finding support.

⚽ World Cup Begins! ⚽

On Thursday 11th June, the World Cup kicks off in the USA, and we’ll be celebrating in school!

Children are invited to come to school wearing their favourite football kits to mark the occasion. During the day, all classes will take part in a special assembly led by Miss Wager, where each class will draw a team out of a hat. This will be the country they will follow, research, and learn about throughout the tournament.

We’re excited to bring the spirit of the World Cup into school and can’t wait to see everyone getting involved! 🌍⚽👏

⚽ Y3/4 Girls Football – Finals Night ⚽

Yesterday, our Y3/4 Girls Football Team attended their finals night after three weeks of league matches.

They started with a brilliant end-to-end game against eventual Bowl winners Jubilee Wood, finishing 0–0. Next, they faced Watling Academy, where the girls worked incredibly hard and dominated much of the play, but two long-range goals from a strong opposition player saw the game end 0–2. Unfortunately, this meant they didn’t progress to the semi-finals.

However, the team showed fantastic resilience, coming back together with a group huddle led by team captain Pixie before heading into a friendly match against Fairfields. The girls played brilliantly, with Pixie scoring her second superb goal of the league campaign and Sarah putting in an outstanding performance in goal, making some excellent saves. Fairfields unfortunately managed to equalise in the final moments, ending the game 1–1.

We are so incredibly proud of all the girls and the progress they have made. With many never playing organised football before joining the team, they have improved so much from week one to week four, a truly fantastic achievement. Despite tough competition against experienced teams, they have stuck together and supported one another.

Well done, girls! 👏💙
