Spending time outdoors can play an important role in children’s wellbeing, learning, confidence and development.

However, busy routines, safety concerns and limited access to outdoor space can make it harder for families, schools and carers to prioritise time in nature.

Our latest guide shares simple, practical ideas to help children reconnect with the natural world, including:
• Noticing wildlife during everyday routines
• Taking familiar activities outside
• Creating mini adventures
• Growing plants or building nature at home
• Using technology to identify birdsong, insects and wildlife
• Supporting older children with independence and sensible risk-taking

With realistic ideas for all ages, the guide helps make outdoor time feel accessible, enjoyable and worthwhile.

🦖 Year 1's Dinosaur Adventure! 🦖

A little later than planned (apologies for the delay in collecting the photos!), but we couldn't miss the chance to tell you all about Year 1's fantastic end-of-year trip to Gulliver's Dinosaur & Farm Park!

The children had an amazing day packed full of fun, adventure and learning. They enjoyed a variety of hands-on activities, including slime making, fossil digging and even making their own delicious vegetable rice wraps. 🌯✨

There was plenty to explore too, from meeting the farm animals and visiting the reptile house to riding the Observatory Tower high above the treetops and taking a trip on the tractor ride. 🚜🐍🌳

Of course, no visit would be complete without bouncing on the giant bouncy pillows and taking a walk along the dinosaur trail, where the children came face-to-face with some incredible prehistoric creatures! 🦕🦖

The children's behaviour throughout the trip was exemplary, and they were a real credit to the school. We are so proud of the way they represented St Mary's Wavendon.

It was a wonderful way to celebrate the end of a fantastic year, well done, Year 1! 👏✨🦖

🏔️ Mr Singh’s Three Peaks Challenge 🏔️

Firstly, thank you everyone for your kind words and well wishes.

Mr Singh took part in the National Three Peaks Challenge, aiming to complete the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours.

He successfully reached the summit of Ben Nevis in Scotland and made it back down in five hours. Unfortunately, during the climb, the sole of his boot came off (as you can see in the picture). It was temporarily bandaged up, but it made the descent much more difficult. As a result, he had to change his technique coming down the mountain, which put a lot of extra pressure on his toes and knees.

Because of this, he was unable to reach the summit of Scafell Pike in England. He was around 20 minutes short there and approximately 25 minutes short of Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) in Wales.

Although he could have completed the challenge in around 25 hours, the event had strict time limits, so he wasn’t able to officially finish it.

Despite that, he is incredibly proud that he took part and so are we as a school. A wonderful experience, and Mr Singh is very grateful for the challenge, the support, and the memories made. Sometimes it’s not just about reaching the finish line, it’s about having the courage to take on the journey!

Well done Mr Singh! 🥾
